|
|
I have the original seats in my 87 and would love to upgrade them to a higher quality chair.
When the 04 GTO came out I test drove one, and really liked the interior of the car. I thought man these seats would be great in my car but it will take several years before there are enough GTO's wrecked that they wont cost an arm and a leg. I found a set on ebay that match the interior color of the 87 and was wondering if anyone has seen a set of GTO seats in a 3rd gen? I dont know if they will fit let alone issues with seat tracks. |

since there is no answer... I would think the two things to worry about, are how high they sit, mounting the sliders. Chances are that the sliders from our cars, won't bolt up (of course you never know, it is GM). You might have to make some mounting adaptors to make it work. You might try to get Mike , Al, or Ian to post pictures of how they mounted the aftermarket seats. I would guess that a similar technique would work for the GTO seats.
I think the seat height would be my biggest worry though, the seats in our cars site pretty low, and there isn't a lot of room to sit higher. If you could get some measurements of the seats, that would really help you figure out if you can make it work. |

As Dewey said you gotta get the proper demensions first also.... Are the seats power? are they heated? all of these things can be made to work with a little bit of looking at a wiring diagram but it will all depend on what you would like and how much of a hassle you are willing to go. I would think those would be a great addition to a third gen interior! _________________

This should have been posted when I had my seats out and putting in new carpet, then I could have taken pictures I basically used the slides that came with the new seats. I had a friend break the spot welds holding the mounts to the slides on the stockers, then welded the mounts to the slides of the new seats. There was a problem with the driver's side as the front mounts are part of the slide, so he used some square stock and fabricated a pair of mounts for the front. The seats do sit about an inch or so higher, but there is 9 1/2" travel front to rear and I can't use them when slid all the way to the rear and I'm 6'2"
The new mount for my driver's seat, the other side of the seat is the same.

I wish I had a set of GTO seats availible to as built. That is the problem. I dont want to spend a grand to find out they dont fit. The seat tracks are not a big deal, I have a MIG and can make decent welds as long as the bottle is full!.
A couple of years ago there was a post on TGO about installing Audi TT seats in a 3rd gen, they looked sweet. I checked out Audi seats in a wrecking yard in Marysville and noticed the seat tracks were welded to the floor pan and they were really wide.
These are the type of issues I would be concerned with, the width and heigth of the seats. |

From sitting in my buddies GTO, those seats "feel" like they are REALLY tall. As in, a huge distance between mounting feet and actual butt height. Which is the major issue in our cars if you're over 5'8" at all. I still need to remake the brackets for my seats. I made them when I had only been welding for a couple weeks and those welds are horrendous!
Al shows you about the best way to do it I think, Adapt the bottom of the stock brackets (The mounting feet) to the seats own upper brackets.
What color are the seats? Will it bother you that they have 'GTO' stitched in them? |
