Despite fuel spraying all over the place (due to me forgetting to use teflon tape on some brass fuel fittings Embarassed ) very bad initial timing, and several grass fires UNDER the car from hot exhaust, the Merc got her initial firing and 20 minute cam break in today.

Engine temps were right around 180* which is perfect with that t-stat. The oil pressure (at 2K) was up around 80 psi cold, but dropped down to around 70 hot. Is that a little high, or is that normal for a new engine with a high-volume pump?

Either way I'm stoked that nothing leaked (that I can tell) and nothing blew apart during break in.

Awesome!

Better than my new engine break in a couple months ago. I left an oil plug or two out and couldn't figure out where the oil was spraying from. After I fixed that, my adjustable fan relay died and I ended up spraying steaming hot water all over the engine during cam break in... Which kind of worked out because it steam-cleaned all the oil off of my engine. Embarassed

Anyway, great job! We need some vids of it running, with sound preferably. Wink
And maybe some Burnout also. Twisted Evil

Vids tomorrow if the rain isn't too bad. Thumbs up

I had a few crazy things though. When I was filling the engine with water I forgot to install the temp sender on top of the intake manifold. That was nice. I also forgot to remove the bolt I had jammed in the oil pressure sending unit hole before I primed the oil system, which was nice flying across the engine bay being pushed by a good stream of diesel oil. Nice job! The pressure will probably drop a tad with a few miles but thats pretty typical to run at with a high volume pump. Mine's about 60psi until it's good and hot.

Only an idle vid due to fuel pressure problems, and the dizzy having no mechanical advance at all.
