it's not 3rd gen related, but would LS1 yeads fit on an old 400? if so would i need to make other mods for them all to work right? it is a carb'd engine, reason i ask is my uncle just bought new heads for his lS1 and had them laying around and said me might sell them to me..

Gonna go with no on that one. Vortec heads will fit, but not LSx. Water jacket holes are all different if I'm not mistaken.

Nope, intake and exhaust ports are in completely different locations. Although it has been done to a SBF http://460ford.com/viewtopic.php?t=18923

Yes and no. LT1's are reverse cooled and the water jackets are different. They can work but you have to modify holes and do some stuff to make it work. I heard it's not worth it but doable.
