Best thing I can think of is to find an auto upholstery shop. You might pay a little more, but should be pleased with the results, even that shouldn't cost what those seats are worth. My upholsterer here in Bremerton did a fine job on my seats, even rebuilt the foam padding.

BLT-ZR1? Was that a license plate on a Corvette? If so, then I'll bet he has a way more than stock motor under the hood.

no... this was a badge on the car, instead of saying RS or Z-28, it said BLT-ZR1, i snagged the badge just because i was so baffled by it, i don't have it in the house with me, but it looks and feels just like a stock badge would, this car looks like it was extremely nice on the inside before it was sent there, that's where i snagged the seats from, i wrote down the Vin, but it didn't tell me much, i'm going back there more then likely to pull the engine.. 1g1fp21f9jl1052 that's the Vin number i got from it.. i wished i would of had somthign to write the RPO codes down to see what some of them were

and if i were to go the upholster route, will they actually stitch Recaro on the seats? or would that be some kind of move they wouldn't allow?

Well then, my guess is the owner had some custom engine work done (car sports a customized ZR1 motor) and he had the car badged to reflect that.

You can request the upholsterer to embroider the RECARO logo on the seats when he does them. The logo may look just a little different, but close enough so that it's not noticeable. When I had my headrests embroidered, the CAMARO logo couldn't be an exact copy due to copyright laws. It looks close enough and hardly anyone notices.

hmm, from the looks of the motor it was Carb'd, and the vin say's 305 which is believeable.. it was just missing the valve covers.. and a few hoses..

i also just found a guy selling one in the nickle ad today too, kind of ironic, but i havn't been able to get a hold of him

I second the upholstery shop idea. The work will last the life of your car, and it will look GREAT.

They don't look like the real deal. IIRC the real ones have a mesh lined head rest.

Such as these...

Obviously not from a 3rd gen, but they appear to be genuine Recaro. Probably a few years older than the model I found here, but the basic structure and outline are similar although the inserts look slightly different...

Brand new, the seat I pictured above starts out at $700, I believe that is per seat. No telling how much the depreciate once in the car. If it were me, I'd opt to upholster them to match the car's interior, using OEM cloth and install them.

Those would look sweet in one of our cars. They're all boxy just like your camaro.

A buddy of mine had those exact seats in his old bronco and they held you pretty well.

Don (RecaroT/A) would be the guy to ask about those seats. Smile

Since John put me on the spot I have no choice lol.

Not much to add and the responses were correct. This seat is way better than the Type N supplied in Trans Ams from the 81 NASCAR Pace Car to the 86 Trans Am.

Your set has taken a beating but held up better as there is a liner between the fabric and the foam. The type N does not have this, and once they start to go they go fast, not too many around now.

Recaro often changed the insert patters on the same seat throughout the model run, The Type N is good example.

The repair: The covers need to be un-stitched and the patterns duplicated, then re-sewn. This is pricey but well worth it.

I also know a guy, Van's Upholstery in Enumclaw, (he used to do the dealer adjustments and repairs on 3rd gen vert tops)

(360) 825-5775

He works out of his garage, and picks the jobs he wants to work on, he is that good and is always busy. If your not in a hurry you can do one seat at a time. Keep tabs on Ebay and you will see what these go for.
