Well I just the car running pretty good, so here is a picture and a short video, at the end of the post.

After I used most of the old gas and got a new battery it is running a lot better.

I just had the stuck oil filter problem today , when changing it for the first time on the new engine. That was a big pita to change the filter when it gets stuck from not putting oil on the rubber seal. I had to destroy the filter to get it off of the block. I will remember never to do that again.

Now just need to keep my foot out of it for a while so it can break in.

The next thing to do is replace that pos megashifter. Anyone got any good ideas? I was thinking of the b&m pro ratchet.

I also need to have the rear end looked at. It is starting to make a howling noise that is getting louder and louder. I want to install the 3.70 gear set I have as well, and have the rear end and the posi rebuilt. When rebuilding a rear end is the only precise measurement setting up the posi? Anyone know of a good crew member/shop in vancouver/portland area?

Anyways heres a picture and a video

Break it in like a dog, and it's going to run like a dog.

But you didn't put new rings in so after the 30min cam break-in period, you're good to go. Drive it.

You did break the cam in right? |

				| The car got new rings. I ran the car for 45-60 minutes around 1000-2000 rpm because of the old gas/battery and the car not wanting to idle correctly. The car will run correctly now, but I haven't really driven it only short test drives while trying to get it running correctly. Should I let it idle at a higher rpm for a while to break in the cam still? |

You have to run the engine upon first fire up to break the camshaft in. 20-30min above 1500RPM or it wont get sufficient oiling and may go flat.

After that you need to run it kind of hard to seat the rings, if you're lucky, since you didn't hone. Normal idle would be fine.

You need to change the oil immediately after cam break-in because the assembly lube will plug up the filter.

Again at 1500 miles.

You need to use oil that has proper levels of ZDDP and other additives that were removed from oil recently and are necessary for flat tappet camshafts. Or run a bottle of GM EOS or Crane Cam Breakin Lube at every oil change.

Your car was running not all that long ago. Unless you got water in it, the gas would have been fine.

Gotta do some research man! Hope your cam's not flat and that your rings seat cause you'll be lucky if they do. |

				| I don't understand how the lifters/cam would have insufficient oil, I pumped them up with the oil pump and a drill. I did use the crane cams brake in lube and put in diesel oil after I just changed the oil and filter. The gas in the car was 10 months old, but either way it was running like crap. Live and learn situation I guess. |

I was running on 8 month old gas, on an already detonation prone motor on my break in.

Did you check the timing or have a buddy doing it while you were running it on break-in?

You said it idles/drives ok now, right? _________________

The lifters don't oil the cam. The Cam gets oiled by splash and run off of various parts. There is no positive oiling of the camshaft. The higher RPM is also required to get proper spin of the lifters to mate with the cam.

Did you not read the instructions that came with the Cam?
