New pics up:

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=387876490&albumId=826516

OK... the 69 is back on the road. That, as they say, is the good news.

The bad news is it needs a new front end. Ball joints, tie rod ends, bushings. Pitman arm, idler arm.

$1270 at Carl's brakes and alignment. Then, because the tires on it are so old they don't even HAVE a date stamp, I need to get a new set of rubber.

Sigh.

Just for yucks, I gave the car a myspace page, if you want to check it out:

http://www.myspace.com/69camaro454

I'll get some pics up in a day or two to go along with the 200 or so that tell the story.

Glad to see she is coming along. When you taking her to the track?

As I recall, parts are $470... the rest is tax and labor. Is that too much? Is there someone else around here who could do it?

Well, technically, I already took it to the track. The pic for that is below.

Race it? Well, I am reliably informed that in addition to the money I've bled into this thing... Maybe $10,000 in paint, sheet metal, interior and now the front end, Danielle has told me that the next step if I race this thing will be genuine blood running out of me personally.

Shocked Wow. That looks like a fairly ill-concieved attempt to drive up a tree. Good work getting it back together man.

BTW, that labor price is pretty high. When I had Schwaby quote me for a centerlink and idler arm, they marked up the parts about $40 over Napa's prices, but the labor was only about $50 a part.

I'm fairly happy with the outcome, since I know about as much about sheet metal and body work as I do brain surgery.

Unfortunately, it has the WRONG HEADER PANEL. As you can see from the wreck pic, I had no way to compare it.

That's why the gap is so big between the nose end of the hood and the panel in front of it. This leaves me with two choices: live with it, or yank it, put the 69 in there, and get the repaint.

That scares me because I'm not all that sure there will be an absolute color match.

Decisions, decisions.

Aslong as you get a new panel pronto, they should beable to do a very good rematch.

If you wait a year... or more. No, it wont match.

I've got the panel. But I'm paranoid about taking it back to them.

They promised the car would be done in 3 weeks.

It took... the better part of 5 months.

Friends occasionally, married all the time.

Going to the track was a spur of the moment thing. We'll be there tomorrow at the Beaches thing, probably late afternoon fo' sho'.

Well, I'm past the love/hate part of it. There were times when I wanted to blow it to pieces; because frankly, I didn't know what I was doing, which frequently meant that what would take someone knowledgeable an hour would take me 4, or 6... or more.

And, in the alternative, I would have to do something over and over, trying different ways to make something work... because I simply didn't know.

The paint job, I'm informed, is the ubiquitous "creme sickle." I wasn't a big fan... (I wanted something a little more "current"... gun metal silver/gray with black stripes or something) but the reaction has been quite something, and it's growing on me.

There's a few things left to do (Yeah.... right. A "few things") like getting the console back in (which is more complicated then you might believe) and fixing a pop-can bottom sized area on the top of the back seat upholstery in front of the package tray.

I need better seat belts in the front. The new rubber, of course. I need to find out what's causing the latest glitch in the electrical system (The headlights work, but when I turn the highbeams on, the D/S light goes out completely) and I still have to trace down why I lost power to the fuseblock. I don't have any dash lights, and the fuse isn't blown... oddly enough, the same problem I've got in my kid's Bronco.

I'm thinking this car needs a shrink.

And THEN, I'm getting the 87 back on the road (It gets better mileage then my Mazda B4000 pick up and I want to race it a little) which means figuring out why I don't have overdrive in my automatic.

Hopefully it's something simple. But I really don't have a clue besides a Haynes manual.

BUT, oddly enough... in the end...

It's all worth it.

QFT bro. Once you finally get it running, it is worth it. Even at 4.57 with my IROC getting 13 hard-driven miles per gallon, I'm still running it as the daily till it breaks. Very Happy
