So...

Last summer i noticed that on occasion my trans didn't like going in reverse. it shifted in just fine, but the torque converter just slipped. So i added some tranny fluid and the problem ceased.

However in around feb/march i get a phone call from my mom who noticed as she was taking the garbage out, there was a big puddle of transmission fluid coming out from under my car and down the drive way. I was very confused as to why the trans would just dump. I thought the pan gasket busted.

Today i get back from school and climb under to give everything a good clean. I added some more fluid and started her up.
no leak
I drive it around the block a bit and still no leaks. Confused

what would cause a tranny to just dump a bunch of excess fluid? could it be that last summer i over filled it and it was just dumping out the excess?
the thing runs through the gears and shifts just fine now, i'm just nervous.

When a car sits the torque convertor will drain back into the pan. Normally the fluid level in the pan is below the dipstick o-ring or kickdown seal level and they wont leak. But when the extra flluid drains back you can have a leak at these points. Both of my rigs that sit alot will do this. Anyway, check those 2 seals or just replace them.

my bird has the same problem... so its either gonna be the dip stick tube or the kick down seal?
i previosly thought that my front seal was dripping into the inspection pan and just dumping it when ever i park at a wierd angle

Thanks a bunch B! I was worried that this was going to be a much bigger problem. I'll keep my eye on it for a while and see what it does. If it continues to be a problem i'll be sure to check those first.

and Ian, next time you have a spare t56 sitting around let me know, i'll come get it out of your garage. Smile
