Thanks, I've already done that. Also, the caliper slides back and forth on it's mounting bolts as the wheel rotates which tells me it's the flange or axle.
There are some bearings and seals that I should replace too as I understand it, where are they in the tube? |

| Axle bearing and Seal are right at the end of the tube. Seal is easy, bearings need a puller/slide hammer deal. |

| Yup. What he said. Seals and bearings are easy. I just emailed a guy local who might have the aluminum PBR rear disk setup for sale. |

| Lol, I certaintly don't need them! I'm inquiring with you in mind. Its a super easy swap that requires the axles to come out. We'll see if he responds. |

| PBRs are pretty easy if you have a ten bolt. little harder with a nine as they offered the PBRs for one year only on the 89 and the backing plates are hard to find. i had to have mine made from a set of ten bolt backing plates. |

If you remember Tony, the rear end I have now came from a 1982 T/A, so 10 bolt, cast iron calipers on the discs and most likely 26 spline axle shaft. Just a new backing plate and those PBR brakes should fit nicely |

Thank you Rodney. That axle was perfect and straight. Took me about two hours to do the swap taking it slow and seeing how it came apart so I could do the reverse to put it together.
Here is the bearing surface of the one I removed.
And here is the new straight axle

I thought I'd bring this back because I need the other side now.
I've been hearing my brake pads on the driver side rattling in the calipers while driving, the noise of course goes away when I brake. The driver side axle I found is also slightly bent (not nearly as bad as the other one was) and the tire is starting to show wear patterns to verify this. I don't see myself changing the rear end gear and carrier to 28 spline soon, so I'm looking again for another 26 spline disc shaft. |

I've had it up on jackstands and watched it wobble. Not nearly as bad as the passenger side was. The tire has worn the siping off the outside tread about 1/2 way around the circumference, but all the tread is still there, so nothing bad yet.

Axle wasn't as bad as I thought it was, the bearing surface looked good. But I think the flange was still slightly bent as the wheel wobbled a bit when rolling.
The rattling brake pad in the caliper was almost solely due to having no anti-rattle clips. The inside pad was moving up and down as it made contact with the rotor, that's a nasty noise, I thought the left rear wanted to come apart.
I still need to button up the diff, but I forgot to get a gasket before I started, so that can wait until tomorrow. Besides It was starting to get dark by the time I was ready to put it back together. |
