|
|
I am removing the TPI intake to access the plug in the oil pressure port at the back of the engine. The removal seems pretty straight forward and I have everything torn down to the fuel rails.
Questions;
1) Do I have to/should I remove the fuel rails and injectors prior to unbolting the intake. I looks like I have room to get to the torx head bolts but would like to know what you think. Would now be a good time to do some service work on the injectors anyway like new o-rings or something. I know it would be easier to get to the bolts with the rail off, I just don't know what I am getting myself into yet.
2) I am planning to replace the thermostat since it appears impossible to do later and maybe cleaning the EGR. Anything else I should be doing? _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

| You don't have to take the whole baseplate off to get to it. Removing the plenum should suffice if you really feel you have to. |

The plug is really tight and has a 5/16" square that will round off it I continue to try using an open end wrench on it. I need to get a set of vice grips on it to make sure it comes out. It is actually directly under the fastener boss on the rear manifold runner so I can't get to it from above either. Best chance is to pull manifold and get a straight shot at it.

| If you're going for oil pressure. There's an oil pressure port just above the oil filter that might be easier? |

The plug from the harness won't reach that far though. I already have everything else off now so I am mainly concerned about whether or not to remove the fuel rail/injectors before unbolting the intake. It doesn't appear to be that big of deal to pull the injectors and put on some new o-rings. Just need some opinions from those that have done this. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

| I can't remember if I pull the rails or not. If you can get to the bolts for the intake, all 12, without pulling the rails... then leave the rails in. |

| Buy yourself an 8point socket to fit that square plug. |

Well, I have decided to pull the injectors and fuel rail. After reading an article on how to replace injectors, it seems pretty easy and I have new o-rings in my gasket set. My local parts store could not come up with some of the gaskets so I had to order them through TPIParts.com. They were the Throttle body gaskets for the water jacket and top plate and the EGR gasket. I couldn't believe they could not source those gaskets. I have also been too busy to get to anything done for the past couple of days and have more planned in the next few days. I guess I'll just wait for gaskets to arrive. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

| While you're under there, do the throttle body coolant delete, unless your driving way up to the frozen North or something. |

Yeah, I have been considering that one too. I read up on that. Sounds resonable. Similar in nature to blocking of the heat riser in standard manifolds. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

Could always call a local GM dealer. Crewbies get cost+10% through me. |

What GM dealer do you work at? The old GM dealership in Gig Harbor is now owned by my website sponsor. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

Can you drop ship? Fuel to get there is kinda pricey if it's just for small stuff.
The GM dealership isn't there anymore, I haven't been by there for a while, but PowerboatsNW has / had a lot there. Their primary store is in Fife. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

Little Late on this post, ops.
I cant seem to remove the runners w/o loosening up the fuel rail at bit.
Any time the injectors are removed from the intake, new o-rings are recommended.
They do sell square plug sockets. A little costly, but prob less then all the gaskets n labor. |

I got the runners off OK bu cocking them just right. The photo doesn't quote show the fact that that plug is directly under the aft runner. Thanks for all the feedback though. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |
