So basically it seems like one problem with another with both of my camaros... i'm getting my black 92 back within hte next 2 day's.. and i just got my white 86 running again.. but now it dies at idel or if i slow down too much around corners.. and i just went to the store up the street and i went to start it up to drive home and i pushed down on the break and turned the key and the pedel pretty much hit hte floor and i have next to no brake power (checked resovor and i still had a decent amount of brake fluid in there) and as for the black camaro.. it's got a whiney fuel pump (don't have money to fix that) i need to pop the hood at least once a day to move the battery cable to get a good connection to start the dang thing (i've got a new cable, but me and my grandpa can never get together at the same time to put it on) and i also need to grab another terminal to put on there too.. the bright switch doesn't alwasy work and i got under there and i saw that the little rod wasn't reaching all the way to the switch.. and i couldn't get my hand in there to even see what was holding it into place.. the list just seems to get bigger and bigger.. it's fun to fix stuff here and there.. but i've just got a list.. and all i want to do is just sell the white one and fix the black one.. but things really arn't looking too good for either of them..

get a wire brush and clean the terminals as a "temporary fix" until you can get the wire changed.

3rd gens will suck every last penny out of your pockets and they also know when you are at or close to a payday. It will seem to go on and on but in the end you will be happy with the results.

If you have the time and patients it's worth it. But you have to be totally committed!

Yup, I have two also and they are both project cars. I feel your pain man! Thats why I'm selling one of them. The other one can stay a project car. I know they are trying at times, but I'm always glad when they run great and i kept them.

Yea i've cleaned the terminal pretty much once a month since i've had it.. it just makes me upset that it has so many problems, i loved these car's sooo much, and my grandpa tried getting me to sell then once already.. but i was like no it will get better.. and i've got enough parts sitting in my room to fill a decent shelf at a part store just waiting to be put on the cars.. the black one's not far from saving.. i wish i lived near some of you guy's so that way someone could teach me some more stuff.. my grandpa's great with cars, but he's never around.. and me and a chilton's book only get along so good lol

lol blue sounds like me and you have the same story, i want to sell my 86 but until i fix these problems i really wound rather not.. the 92 tho has the gfx i like.. and has more potential i think

It really sounds like you don't have "major" issues, just some gremlins and maintance stuff that needs to be fixed. These cars will make you mad at times, but they are also pretty good for lasting a long time. It sounded like each of them have multiple issues, just start fixing some of the stuff that you know about, then explore and do some testing on the other stuff. We are always willing to help as much as we can, if you need help trying to figure out what to look at, post up all the specifics about one problem at a time. Where are you located at?

for what's wrong and specs and stuff.. the white camaro's the one i just can't figure out... 2.8L 5 speed.. brakes just randomly went limp this morning.. i can still stop.. i just gotta be going less then 20 mph.. not really cool seein as how i missed the turn into my own driveway.. and i was told a vacuum leak was what was more then likely causing that car to die at stops.. and when i go slowly around corners.. i checked and there's 1 hose.. i can go out and take a pic in a bit.. but it seems kinda swollen at the end where it hooks to this "T" looking thing at the rear of the engine by the distrubitor.. and it's very uhh.. squshey...

the black camaro we just droped close to 2 grand into for body work and paint..i've got most of the parts accept a fuel sending unit.. and a fuel pump.. besides those 2 things i've got a new battery cable.. dimmer switch just in case.. and a few other little things.. so i'm more then likely keeping that one and it is just a 3.1L with a 5-speed... and 223xxx miles.. still runs strong tho..

i did a little more looking under the white camaro, and i didn't see any vacuum lines that looked damaged or aged at all.. so idk what to do there.. and the brakes still have fluid in the resavore but it's still limp.. somthing tells me it's going to be a somewhat expecive thing to fix..

You'll need to put a vacuum gauge on it to make sure that's the issue. Then start pulling and capping lines to eliminate minor stuff (like cruise, HVAC, ect.) It's basicly a process of elimination, unless you can actually hear it drawing air at idle.

As for the brakes, pull the wheels to make sure you're not losing any fluid, then check your master cyl. It shouldn't be to much to swap assuming that's the problem.

my car has cc.. but it's never worked.. guessing those could be linked?.. but my cc hasn't worked since at least late 05.. and the car didn't start doing it till late 06..

Got a can of carb cleaner? Start it up, let it warm up and start shooting it around vacuum lines to see if the car idles up higher.

ian's test is a solid one. this also may help. it's a little drawing i made. this is for the pre-87 v6. yours will be slightly different, having 3 rear nipples instead of two.


if the big one is damaged that will cause a brake issue for sure. the little ones control your hvac if you have electric controls and go to your cruise control if equiped. there also may be a vacuum canister in there somewhere.

ok.. idk if i remeber seeing that valve you pointed out.. i can look in the morning tho.. i'll take a pic and post it and if you guy's could point out one's you think that it is.. cause there's alot more there.. and i found a disconnected hose.. but i think it's for the window washer.. cause it goes from the firewall.. and it splits and it goes back in the firewall (moreso towards the wipers) one way.. and to the washer resivor..
