I think the legal limit on washington is 30 all around. Just remember you get what you pay for when it comes to tint shops.

Here you can find the laws for each state. Click on the links for the state, and it brings up the vehicle code.

I hang out alot at the store that installed my stereo equipment. They are also an auto glass shop and do tinting. I have heard customers come in and wanting really dark tint only to be turned away because it's illegal for the shop to exceed the tint laws and can be heavily fined if they do. Having alot of military in Bremerton, there are several customers that are registered in other states, and the shop can tint to that state's legal limits.

Brizio - if you can, find a shop that deals Diamond Window Film. I don't have a number now, but I'll try and edit the post when I do. It costs a little more, but doesn't turn purple like most others. For a little extra, you can get a lifetime warranty that will cover everything, including stupidity.

Al, sorry to take this any further off topic, but do you have any idea how much they would want to retint my t-tops? These C&C tops don't have edges like the GM style, so the tint peels bad.

I think I paid $50 or so to have mine done. I put 5% limo tint on them a few years back. Not sure how much more they would be now, but it's a pretty easy job without alot of labor.

I talked to the shop that did mine for me. They started carrying SunTek film and found a shop in Beaverton, which is also the school for their techs that do tinting.

Address is:
Alexia's Auto Tint
12855 Beaverdam Rd.
Beaverton, OR 97005

Just make sure you get a tint that is metalized. The dyed tints turn purple. I had my cars done with SunGuard. My V6 car has had 30% Sunguard tint on it for the last 9 years with no purple, cracking, or peeling. Also, insist for the door window edges to be filed, and the rear to be done in one piece.

The Mobile Radio stores is where I used to work and they have always seemed to have good tinters. If you want to try it out, you should be able to tint the front's yourself. The back takes some skill at shrinking. Its a complex curve that only a knowledgeable tinter can do one piece.

Just curious, but how did you get away with 18%? The legal limit in Oregon is 35% (same as Washington) and any shop tinting darker can receive a hefty fine. The only way they could do that is to apply it to a car registered in a state where 18% is legal.

yeah that's was what i thought, but these guys did it with no questions. i pulled the car in, they showed me samples of the tints, and i wanted 18%, so they did it. it looks great. it's not as dark as you'd think. you can still see in it a lil bit.

Looks awesome.

Now you just need to adjust the ride height a bit. Very Happy

I need to tint my windows one of these days.

If you would ever put your top down, no one would know you didn't have tinted windows. Razz Razz

What a minute, do I sense some sarcasm?!

Bah, any time the tint would really help in the sun the top would be down so it wouldn't matter. I need to get a top with a glass rear window first.
