Well many of the crewbies know my son Steve 'You Should Have Bought The Blue One Dad' Schultz. Well in what may not be the smartest parenting move ever, we have purchased Steve's first car.
We bought Jess's 1988 GTA. The car is a black t-top 305 TPI that has been converted to a 5 speed. It has steering brace, strut tower brace, Spohn adjustable panhard bar, Spohn adustable LCA's and Eibach springs. The car seems to be mechanically sound but needs some cosmetic work. All in all pretty pleased. Steve, of course, is stoked!
We round tripped Mt. Vernon yesterday to pick it up. The car probably would have made the trip but my dad has a sweet tilt bed car trailer and he was nice enough to let me borrow that. He even rode along with us and drove part of the way which was nice.
Steve was going to register on the board but had to rush to get packed for a trip to the beach with some friends as soon as we got home yesterday. I am sure he will chime in here in the next few days.
Here are a few pics from yesterday:
Here she is as we arrived in the parking lot
My dad strapping down the front
Me strapping down the back
"Take Me Home Guys"
Off the trailer ready to drive home to Damascus
I left a nice posi signature on my dad's street on the way out. I am sure I will hear about that . Hopefully the kid can drive it a bit more responsibly than his old man.
Keeping it in the crew!

Poor Tony sold his car?
My first car was a GTA, it was a love/hate thing, I still miss a lot about it. My digital dash only fully worked when the car hit 125mph +, this of course, was done on a test track in Mexico......
Congrats!! _________________

Nice, perfect color too.
Any big plans, or are you just going to see what he can do with 210hp first? |

Tell Steve-o he needs to regester now!
I am really glad to see jess' car go somewhere we know it will get taken care of, and enjoyed, and we can all still see it around. It is sort of an end of an era though, and a little sad to see jess sell the car.
Let Steve know we are all around to help him out, and help him beat his dad. :p _________________

I agree! It's definitely cool to see it stay around and I'm sure Jess is happy to see it'll have a nice home. So, how big is the mod list already? LSx?
Is he going to get a laundry list of handmedown speed parts? |

Jess is one of the few crewbies I've actually met and I rode in his car. Glad you could pick it up for your son.
If I remember right I took Jess out to lunch that day. He had the choice of driving his car or riding in my 500 RWHP Vette. He chose to drive his car and I rode passenger. What would you have done? |

Why am I getting perpetual X's?
Does this mean Steve-O is gonna dyno? |

Not sure about the perpetual Xs Paul. It wouldn't even let me see them at some point. I assume that it is some disfunction with Comcast. My storage space hasn't even been converted yet like yours and Tony's so it isn't a permissions thing. Brandon couldn't see them and then could. Earlier I could see Tony's pics in his thread and now can't : shrug :.
Not sure if he will dyno or not. As far as mods, nothing but a tune up engine wise. The 305 TPI is no joke, especially for a first car so no speed parts just yet. Now later on... who knows
As far as the real mod list, it reads like a standard thirdgen maintenance list so far. Need to change out the heater core (according to Jess - I haven't gotten in there yet), fix the t-top leaks and it looks like there are a few other seals here and there that are in need of repair. If I can find 4th gen t/a seats for less than new skins for the GTA seats I will pick those up for him but either way the seats need to be replaced. It looks like one of the headlights has a problem so Jess had dialed both of them in the upright position. Possibly new carpet and probably tunes of some sort. Some of this I will do as part of the gift and other will have to wait for his own paydays and birthday

Wow. Now that's a gift that keeps on giving! Car, seats, weatherstriping.
I can attest to how easy a headlight repair kit is. Just finished both of mine this afternoon and the kit fro TDS is simple and cheap. |

Cool I may pick your brain on that. Brandon said he used JB Weld to fix his. I haven't really ever looked into it. My '89 is still working fine : knocks wood :

She is still concerned but has settled into the idea. She is happy that Steve is so excited. I am still sleeping inside the house .

When it comes time to upgrade the tunes, I still have my old sub box, with a pair of JL 10W6s waiting for another 3rd gen. Might have to find some longer straps for the t-top bag with it in the car... _________________ 92 Camaro
