he could use 6" rods?

Laughing I keed. I keed.

I'd take a well built 350 over a cobbled together 383 any day.

Since the crank is good...why not just clean it up, buy good rods/pistons and make a good 350?

Same cost to well build either if you're starting from scratch like it sounds he is.

He said the crank might have been okay. If you're building a performance motor... "okay" doesn't cut it. :O)

its true. if you have to buy a new crank, rods, and pistons. might as well go for the 383 kit. just know you will need to then buy a big cam and an expensive set of heads to keep up. a performance motor is gonna take $$$$$$

Depends on where he's going with it. Even if he went with Vortec heads... a 383 for the price as a 350 is still the way to go. Plus the potential is there for later!

I was assumming the 350 bottom end could be reused in the rebuild. So if the dollars were tight, save the $800 the stroker kit costs and put it into heads instead. I agree, if buying crank and rods it is a no brainer.

My bad, back to my corner. Laughing

Ok, my connections have finally paid off! My grand father works at Lakewood Transmission, and they have a stroker 383 Camaro that came in for a new tranny and clutch, but the guy never paid the bill. Since the car is now going for auction, I have been told that for $300 I can take anything out of the engine bay I can fit in the pick up truck.

Im thinking that this provides me with an extra 350 block, my 383 crank, some connecting rods, some headers, a pair of heads, a performance carb, with intake manifold, the non computer controlled distributor, and MAYBE a y-pipe. Its also got the 16 inch IROC wheels, the really nice ones, I am going to see If I can grab those too.

This will put me with a used 383 crank and rods, Ill buy new pistons, and this should get me some decent heads, stick all this into my four bolt main block. I will then get the summit cam, and this will bring my cost down ALOT.

I need an engine puller.

Why dont you offer to pay the guys' bill in order to purchase the car? Then you dont have to work at anything, you will already have a 383 camaro, voila

+1 for what these guys are telling you. Just buy the whole car and sell your black Z to offset the cost. What needs to be done to get it running? If you need a hand Sunday I can drive out to Lakewood no problem.

They cant sell me the Z28, some political crap. I offered them a bit more money though and they said that I can take anything I want off the car, as long as it will still roll away. It looks like its got the Hooker 2055 3 inch shorty's and y-pipe, and an abbreviated Cat Back (It doesn't go much farther back than the rear axle).

It has an Edlebrok Carb and intake. I havnt had a chance to look at what all the heads heave, but I cant wait to get all these parts back home, then rip it all apart and see what all these parts actually are. I want to know how big the carb is, ect.

One week Smile

Wow, nice find. If you're just going to strip the car entirely, I might be willing to make an offer on some of those parts...
