Ok, found these Dart Iron Eagle vortec heads on Ebay. Seems like too good of a deal. They have good feedback, not a big feedback number, but 100% positive.

I went to Dart's site and they are vortec, 67cc chambers, 1.94/1.5 valves, 165cc intake ports.

What am I missing here? Stock new vortecs will cost me $576 from Jegs or Summit, then have to mod them for more lift in case I ever want to go that way. These are complete for about $300 if I do buy it now plus $138 shipping.

Just seems too good to be true to me.

You're right. Seems too good to be true. I bought a set of 416 heads with 202/160 valves all done up with springs for about $300 on ebay. Only problem I had was when I pulled a stud from too much lift. Other than that, they worked great!

I guess what bothers me most is there is only 2 days left on the listing and no bids. People should be on these like white on rice.

I looked at the feedback they have and found someone who bought an identical set of heads from them and have emailed them asking what condition the heads arrived in. Hopefully if he replies this will shed some light on the subject.

Anyone here have any experience with a set of heads like this?

Well since I didn't get the Dart heads, so I've been really looking at these. Chevy High Perf magazine just did a test on the big block Patriot heads and seemed to like them a lot.

These are available with either a 64 or 68 cc chamber, straight or angled plugs. I'm just not sure if the 195 intake port size will be too big for a very mild street 355. By the time I buy a new set of stock GM vortec and have them modded, I'll be in them as much of more than these heads.

Hard decison to make. I need to get the heads and decide on the compression ratio before I get a set of pistons.

They look nice. Might try to do some more research on them.

But you never know. When I bought my Pro-Toplines they were the shizzle. Only after I got them, you start hearing of quality issues.

If you're concerned... I'd just be looking at a set of bare vortecs and have them done up the way you want.

Here are pics of the vortec heads I got from scoggins/dickey. Price was good, $680 shipped. (free shipping special) And they were out of the standard upgraded heads, so I got the more upgraded ones with stainless valves and supposedly good retiners and locks for the same price Very Happy Although I can't see why these retainers are so great. Anyway, nice stainless valves, vavle giudes cut for PC seals, screw in studs.

The bad..........they are dirty..........gritty. No way would I ever put these on a motor as they came out of the box. I wish I could take them to work and put them in the large vacum degreaser we use for 747 flap tracks. That would do the trick.

About the only mod I'll do to these heads is blend the oil drain back holes in the end of the heads some, and clearance the pushrod holes a little in case I ever want to try 1.6 rockers.

Next part on my shopping list are a set of Keith Black -12cc D-dish pistons and rings. They will give me about 9.3/9.6/1 compression ratio depending on head gasket thickness and if I decide to zero deck the block. I want to get the quench side close, but no too close for the street. Just don't want it too sensitive to octane numbers.

A nice tight quench will actually improve your resistance to pinging. Shoot for 0.040. Some people try to push it even tighter but 40 oughta do it.

That's what I was getting at about octane numbers The closer the quench the better up to a point.

If I zero deck the block, all I'll have is the gasket thickness as quench distance. From what I read, usually the pistons on an average set about .025 down in the bores, so with a .038 gasket I'll have a .063 quench clearance without cutting the block. I'll get the block bored and honed and do a trial assembly and see how everything works out before doing any decking.

My problem now is time to do all this. Overtime is unlimited at work, and it's hard to turn the $$$ down. But then the the tax man and oregon got well over $700 from me this check for just two weeks. The bastards!!! Don't they know I need parts for my toy?? Wink

My dad runs 2 different public water departments. One year the main line froze up on one and the wells got washed out in the other. He put in more overtime then regular time for quite awhile.. His checked ended up being $40 more then normal after the taxes.

Well my check was definatlely more, much more, but crap............give me a break. And I just figured it up to the penny, $863.52 they took for two friggin weeks. I'd be rich if it weren't for taxes and other crap.

Wont you be able to get your Oregon state taxes back, since you live in Washington and work in Oregon? I hear a lot of people say things about living in Washington and working in Oregon is ideal because of taxes... am I wrong?

You don't get all your oregan taxes back. My folks have working in OR and lived in WA for as long as I can remember. While they do get a refund, OR still keeps a hefty chunk.
