BTW, are those cargo area parts from a t-top car, or a car with the hard folding hatch lid?

are the ZZ4s centerbolt heads?
do they come loaded? (valves, rockers, springs, etc..)

if not; will my stock garbage (valves, rockers, springs, etc..) fit? what size valves are the heads machined for? will my headers bolt up?

i don't know much about heads, but i think i need to freshen the top end on my engine a little, and aluminum sounds like fun.
Very Happy

the cargo area peices are from a hard top car. and they had the rear seat shoulder harness, so there are cut outs for that.

as far as the heads, they are centerbolt, they have everything needed to run except the valves and pushrods, the machinist told me that a stock valve train will work just fine with these heads, the springs that are on there are to stock specifications. and yes your headers will bolt up.

ZZ4's are center bolt.

Not sure with your TPI base if the intake bolt angle will be correct to fit on the heads.

Otherwise it should work.

But GET A NEW CAM if you put these heads on. Your L98 cam will rob any performance potential they might have.

Tony, I have a feeling it isn't the upper end of your engine that needs refreshing....

I don't think the ZZ4's are vortec though, so his TPI base *should* work, but don't quote me on that one.

I thought that the ZZ4 heads were essentially the same as the aluminum L98 heads.

nope, vortech has a different bolt angle then the stock TPI base. summit sells a new TPI lower intake that bolts to vortecs, but now we are looking at almost a thousand bucks for a head swap.

john, i have that same feeling, but i gotta try the cheaper stuff before i replace an engine. Smile

I knew they weren't vortec's.....I just thought some of the later, and some more modern SBC performance GM heads used a more "straight in" intake bolt angle than previous castings did.

I could be mistaken though.

The switch was in 87, so he should be fine.

I don't now that I would do that on his car, he needs a new bottom end, and already has L98 heads, which aren't bad. Also, if the ZZ4 heads, have a 64cc chamber, he will need to get them machined down to 58cc, to even get teh same perfomance as he gets now.

Tony. These heads aren't for you right now. If you want to plan an engine. Your rings are shot. You smoke on acceleration.

Start a thread to figure out your motor.

And let this poor guy try to sell his stuff.

Dude... That wasn't the point. Those of us that are knowing about Tony's engine, know his engine is toast. We're giving our experiance to him. In a friendly manor. Not to out you a sale.

Don't take it personally.

Yeah, we aren't trying to out you of a sale at all, the problem is, we know that his motor is toast, and that he needs to fix that, before spending money on heads. Don't take it the wrong way at all, we are trying to help everyone. If you would like, I can remove all of the responses. I think the ZZ4 heads are a good head, I think they would be great for Tony, if he didn't need a new bottom end. But just like we don't want to take a sale away from you, we don't want another member to buy something, when we know he needs to fix something else first. It is a fine line of trying to look out for both parties.
