So the oil pan we snagged from the junk yard was a pre 86/87 one. We didn't realize it's different than the pans on the newer 2.8's. So since this is the cheap project.... I cannibalized!
Stole the snout from the stock pan and welded it to the 4x4 pan. Also shrank the 4x4 sump to aleviate ground clearance. Then the sump hit the pump on the side so I had to cut a hole out and weld that back up. Fun stuff. Looks like shrapnal but should seal nicely.
Started to tackle the nasty rust hole from the battery try with Chris today.
Finished cleanup and paint. Motor is put together, save a few odds and ends.
Anyone see an issue with routing the serp belt approx like this?
Alternator should turn clockwise still and waterpump would be reverse like it's supposed to.

Am I the only one that noticed that this motor is the PBR edition?
Looks like it would work. If the pump ends up being backwards, you can snag one from a 3.1L. Those pumps are opposite.
How are you going to tighten the belt? _________________ E30

If you need one, I have a pump from my 3.1. I don't know how I ended up with the extra, it's only slightly used. _________________ 92 Camaro

I thought you were going to put the punisher logo on the intake? We need to get you a better logo than PBR!
BTW, Glad to see the Delete Pulley worked. How much monkeying did it take? |

Yea, need a tensioner in there, otherwise it should work.
No power steering? |

This car has manual brakes and manual steering.
The belt will be tightened via turnbuckle on the alternator.

3.1L pumps aren't reverse flow? If that's the case and the mount to the timing cover I have I'll definitely go that route! I could ditch the idler pulley all together.
Actually it wouldn't work unless I ran the ribbed edge of the belt on the smooth water pump pulley.
The motors been in and out a few times. Before it goes in for the hopefully final time I have to:
:Finish the engine bay:
-Grind some welds
-Make battery mount
-Invert some floor pan for exhaust clearance
-Cut out a hole for the shift fork to fit
-Modify hole for throttle cable
-Figure out fueling and run the fuel lines
-Cleanup/Paint
:Finish the Engine Prep:
-Build accessory brackets
-Build clutch cable bracket
-Install rear main seal
-Swap trans input shafts
I think that list about covers it. Everything else should be able to be done with the motor in.

| or get a different pulley for the water pump. i don't think it would be a big deal to run the ribbed belt over the flat pulley. |

I don't think there is a serp pulley for a standard directional flow pump for this.
The 3.1 uses a flat pulley also. |

Mechanical Completion goal is by January Dyno.
Once she's in and running it will be onto the front brakes/rear axle and roll cage.
Then slap the turbo on.
Then dyno
Then paint it
Then race it. |
