well i just ordered the catback for my '88 tbi formula, i went with the 2.5'' mandrill bent Dynomax, i ordered it from my work (knecht's Auto Parts in Aloha, Oregon) i was wondering if anyone has had experience with it.
am i gonna have a bit more pick up or am i gonna be disappointed?
next i wanna attack the 2.73 rear end, any suggestions?

WELCOME TO THE CREW!

i can't say what the catback will do by itself, i installed headers when i did my catback. you will probably notice a difference. it will atlewast sound faster. Wink

i live right up the street from there, i'm off 170th.

so tell us about yourself and your car. i saw you made a garage page, is that aloha highschools auto shoppe i see in the backround in a few of those photos? also i like your personalized plate. Cool

I've got a 305 TPI motor in my 87 and I went with a 3" cat back. I was not disapointed at all. I'm not sure if the 2.5" will give you the same results, but it has to be better than stock.

I had a 3.08 rear in my car and got a 3.42 from a wrecking yard, stuck a zexel posi in it and am very happy with it. I beleive now the U-Pull-It yards charge about $100 for a rear with a "core" charge. They wanted to charge me more if I took the drums with it, so you might want to consider pulling them off before paying for the rear.. There are lots of 3rd gens in the wrecking yards, pop the rear cover and count the teeth. You sould be able to find a 3.08, a 3.23, and with a loittle looking a 3.42. 3.73's seem a little tough to find.

Like Tony, I did mine with the headers, 3" all the way. Can't say it runs any better for now because I've got an exhaust leak to take care of. I know where it is too, just can't get a wrench on it.

BTW, welcome to the CREW Newbie

thanks for the welcome, i was turned onto this site by DBL TKE aka my friend Skyler.
im 17, go to Century High, work at Knecht's, ive had my Formula for a little over a year now, went thru a 700r4 already... i dream of an LT1 swap, keeping it mild and good for daily driving.

If you sticking with the 700R4, go with a lower gear like a 3.45. 3.73's with that high first on the street gets old fast. Perfect for a T-56 though. Very Happy

Nice looking Bird BTW. Yup yup

I bought my catback about 15 years ago. Don't remember who from.

Just start checking the U-Pull-It yards. Got mine at the Vancovuer yard, but you neven know what will be there............like a 4 bolt main 350 just sitting on the ground Very Happy

Most of them have third gens. It's just finding one with the gear ratio you want. 3.08's and 3.23's are easy to find. It's the 3.42's and 3.73's that are harder to come by.

In conjunction with the catback... headers and the rear up to a 3.42 is where you' notice the fun factor go up!
