OK so i got my Lt1 t56 in my iroc. All bolted up. Took it down the road and i shifted fine. I got to like 3 streets down from my house and al of a sudden a grinding noise starts and my clutch pedal is really hard to push down. So i pulled over and towed it home. This happened the other day. I just got under there today and i took off the slave cylinder and the aluminum dust shield and felt the clutch fork. Its completely loose. So i stuck my hand in there and i pulled out the bolt that holds the t stud on for the clutch fork. It completely ripped the threads clean out. I unscrewed them off of the bolt. My question is, how easy will it be to re tap that hole since the transmission is aluminum? Any help would be great guys. I really want my car back on the road. Thanks

You're talking about the ball stud for the clutch fork on the bellhousing?
Um... I'd send the bellhousing back and have him front the money for another one. |

Believe me i really want to ring the guys neck who i got the stuff from anyways. It took like a month to finally get all my stuff i had bought. And your thinking of a t-5 style. The lt1 t56 t pivot stud bolts to the trans. I checked it out and i think its that the bolt i was using didn't give it enough bit because i took the stud off and just threaded the bolt in and it goes in way further then i had thought so i'm going to try and order the actual bolt from the dealer right now and put it back together. If that doesn't work i guess i'll have a machine shop re tap it for me.

The trans didn't come with one. I matched one up with one i had at home.

Yup. As long as I'm in the power band its all good. All the drift vids are of my V6 Auto car.
So they didn't give you the bolt needed when you bought the tranny? Thats weak. Is the hole damaged all the way to the bottom then? Or did it just strip the top threads out? |

Just the top threads. So I'm just waiting till tomorrow to get the bolt i ordered from the dealer and see if that works. Fingers crossed.

Just clean up the outer threads the best you can with a pick tool, and then cut little slits out of the thread of the bolt you get from the dealer. That should clean it up good if you can't find a bottom tap to fit it. I've had to do this method on a crossthreaded spark plug hole in an aluminum head.

Tacoma Screw in Bumerton. |
+2. As I recall when I did mine, the screw is fairly long, like three inches maybe, and I think it had a smooth shank for the fork. If yours was shorter, that may have done it. |
