Aaaaaahhhh yeah!
No parking brake provisions but doesn't wilwood make a mechanical caliper designed solely as a PB?
I've been disturbed by how small my rears look now with the 19's on.
I wish I knew about this Kore3 place sooner, they make hubs and such for our cars and tons of other brake parts like the pad retainer bolts for my front calipers in a regular head, not the aluminum allen head ones strip out like crazy. _________________

| Stock LT1's. Same as a thirdgen's PBRs. But with the combo of 19" thin spokes and the 14" rotors in the front even the 11's look incredibly, and I mean incredibly small. |

the C6 Z06 calipers are fixed, I wouldn't want to run those on a live axle rear, without floating rotors. The pad knockback form the axle play will be really bad. If you put floating rotors back there you will probably be OK though.

It allows the rotor to move side to side on the screws a little with a fixed caliper, this keeps the rotor surface centered with teh caliper. |

| The caliper is held in by the pads and a pin rather than bolted like stockers. |

the PBR calipers, are a standard rotor, with floating calipers.

Confirmed.
I had to dig up some pics of mine. The "floating" part is kinda different though right? The caliper bolts are fixed, but they bolt onto floating pins. Unlike the fronts that have a floating bolt.
Looks like the floating rotor would be weaker??? Looks like during panic stops that the rotor could jam against the bolt, possibly breaking it. I'll look into more on my own time. |

no it is better, because it can move a little as things expand. With a fixed caliper like the C6 Z06, brembo's, wilwood, etc. You want a floating rotor, since there is nothing in system that cam move. Most race cars use some sort of floating rotor.

Blue, no I didn't use kore3 for the fronts. I didn't even know about them until a day or so ago. I'm using a c5 bracket I got from ebmiller on TGO, and all the caliper/rotor/pad stuff I got through the local stealership (now my place of work) and they matched gmpartsdirect.com. But any c5 bracket will work with the C5/C6 stuff.
Dew, what about the live axle setup would put excess strain on the rotor vs the hubbed setup on the front? What's pad knockback? You think it'd be a good idea to run a floating rotor on front as well? I need to ditch these GM ones as they are directionally vaned and one is the wrong direction. _________________

Not to plug in for Dewey, as he knows more about this than anyone on here I think, but what he's talking about I belive is the C-clips in the differential.
If you jack up your car at the rear, you can pull your tires in and out a little bit. With a floating caliper, the caliper will slide around with the axle. But with a fixed caliper, anytime you take a corner the axle will move in or out, and slap the pads.
a floating rotor would fix this in that it would stay in the correct spot.
If I'm wrong then sorry for confusing further. |

Bobby pretty much hit the nail on the head. The front there isn't nearly the side to side play. With teh c-clips in the rear, there is a certain ammount of play needed for everything to work, that play is going to push agains the pads and pistons, since the caliper can't float. Because of this you would want floating rotors, so that something in the brakes back there can move freely.
It may not be a big deal on street car, but if you were racing you would probably notice the delay in rear pad engagment. IMHO, if you have the spare money to get the rotors, it would be worht it.

What's a fixed rotor like?
Aren't our rear calipers the same as the front in stock form? The rotor is smashed between the wheel and the axle so I can't see how it would "float" |

| what do you mean smashed between the wheel and hte axle? The stock PBR's float on the pins, just like your PBR's in the front of your car now. The iron ones may have been on floating bolts, so the whole caliper could move a little. In stock form our cars had floating calipers, it may have been a floating bolt design, it may have been floating pin, but either way the caliper is able to move, otherwise it wouldn't work. |
