Does anyone know if they are the same? There is a gear on them obviously.... does that corrispond with the same gear in all transmissions or can it be different?
Asking because I've got an S10 T5 and a Camaro T5 and one has a really really warn input shaft at the pilot, and the other is cherry.
Does anyone know for sure if they are interchangable? |

Should be interchangeable. I think there was a difference with the pilot bearing though. All T-5's have the same ratio's too, but WC-T5's have a different 1st gear.
S10 T-5's also have a different tailshaft housings that does not have a torque arm mounting provision. _________________ E30

wrong on first
correct on second...
The s10 t-5 has different gears then the camaro. as well a v8 t5 and v6 t5 have different gears.
The s10 t5 shifter point is closer to the front
the s10 t5 place where the speedo gear goes is different spot then the camaro.
all thats really the same between the two is the case, and inside the case design.
There is a site somewhere were a guy discusses the differences between them. I learned from installing a camaro t5 into an s10
:edit: as for an input shaft. All I know is the v8 and v6 use a different one. Dunno about truck v6 to camaro v6. But I do know a v6 camaro input shaft will slide into a 2.8 s10 clutch set. |

| I could be wrong on this Paul but I think they will interchange if they have the same first gear ratio. That should make that gear on the input shaft the same diameter and what not. |

I'm sure these two trans have different first gears.
The input splines are the same. I haven't measured, but I would imagine the length is the same, as the bellhousings for the two are interchangable.
The insides are all the same I know that.
Looking at the exploded view, it doesn't look like the input shaft gear is 1st gear... it seems to just drive the countershaft. Then the gears on the coutnershaft are what change, that drive the output shaft.
I'll get around to taking them apart and comparing. Should be pretty easy to see if the gears are the same. I don't think they come off the input shaft IIRC.
Been a while since I've been inside one. |
