If you find me a running 350 shortblock for a SONG, I'll let you have a GMPP Nodular flywheel for a song. |

Well............the only 350 engine I know of is the one I'm using for my car. I will keep my eyes out for one though.
If I can't find one...........how much for the flywheel, or will this do for a "song" |

Don't know really, I always start my parts search here first. I'm a month or two off from completing my new motor, so i'm in the planning and parts gathering stage at this point.
Let me know what you think it's worth. I'm also waiting to see what Dewey wants for the one he has. |

Why you gonna go with an older style block???
I myself love the roller cam setup in the newer blocks. |

Factory roller 327's are hard to find.
Alloy, you have the flywheel you need on your car. |

I know I have one on my car, I need another one to surface it and use it when I balance the rotating assembly before I build the new motor. The flywheel is balanced along with the crank and balancer. I want to have the new engine totally ready to drop in so I can do the swap in a couple of days.
Hmmm.............327 factory roller huh.........must have been a special "COPO" order I'd think (COPO=Central Office Production Order) |

| So what happens if you ever have to replace the flywheel? Is it actually used to balance the rotating assembly? |

It's balanced with the rotating assembly. And if you have to replace it, then your balance will be off.
The pistons with rings/pins are each weighed and the lighest one found. Then the other 7 are matched to the lighest one. The rods are also weighed, both on the big and small end, and again all brought down to match the lightest one.
Then bob weights are clamped onto the journals and filled with lead shot to mimick the wight of the rods and pistons. The flywheel and blanacer are bolted on and the entire assembly is spun and the machine tells you how much weight to add or remove. You can actully "over" balanced an engine to run at a specific RPM, but that's mostly for high RMP race engines.
I balanced the engine in my pickup and for a 454 it runs pretty smoothly. I'd NEVER ever built an engine for myself without balancing it. |

why wouldn't you balance the rotating assembly without the flywheel, then zero balance the flywheel, so that if you have to replace it, you just have the new flywheel zero balanced, and you are set.
And I would love a roller 350, but early 350's are a dime a dozen. I am just looking for a motor to last me until I get the 327 project going. I have a sneaking feeling that the 305 in my car is on its last legs, it is starting to burn a descent ammount of oil now. |

I've only used AC's balancing machine once on my big block, so I'm not sure what all I can actually do with it.
My engine is geting tired also.........tired of the big smoke screen at startup.
Why a 327? Remember, there's NO substitute for cubic inches |

| You should balance the flywheel/pressure plate together. It's a neutral balance and the two pieces become indexed. |

Yes there is. Positive pressure. 14.7 psi of boost (a little more because of heat) is like doubling your displacement. |
