I may have found myself a Borg Warner 9 bolt posi disc brake rear with a 3.27 ratio for $200.00 it has new brakes and i'm curious what your thoughts are.
is this the rear i've been waiting for?

I should say, assuming it is a 89 or newer, with the good rear brakes....

its on an 87, but its got new raybestos calipers. i'm assuming its a 3.27, that was the BW ratio in camaros that year IIRC.

ohh if its an 87, it has the old style brakes, I wouldn't want it. It might fit for you though, if you want 3.27's.

whats the "old style brakes"? are they bad? i mean i'm coming from drums right now so i think just about anythings gonna be an improvement.

*edit*
how long would it take to swap out a rearend? I'd need to pull this one and swap in my old one so he can sell a rolling parts car?

If all the brake lines loosen up easy, and you don't have to cut the LCA bolts out, and you know what you are doing, it is probably only a couple of hours. But with 20 year old cars, you never know what is not going to come out.

Dude, just get it. Its not the best brake setup but it will work. They have iron calipers instead of the aluminums. Someone will buy it if you end up not liking it. Plus the ratio would be better. An improvement all the way around.

Swapping axles is no big deal either. I think I swapped my axle in 2 hours? The hard part is breaking all the bolts loose. Does he really want your old axle?

he basically said i can have it if i swap in a peg leg rearend so the car rolls when he sells it. it isn't running currently.

Does anyone want to help me pull this off maybe saturday? the donor car is all the way in Silverdale.

Isn't that your only car? You may want to buy a rear end from a junk yard to swap him. Just in case his is dirty or bad. Swapping parts with someone always makes me nervous Shocked

I'm hoping to pick up kurfbird's old one and swap that one in so i'm not left without one.

What all is it gonna take to swap a 9 bolt disc into my 10 bolt drum?

Should just need the brake lines and the "tee" for the brake lines. May need a different set of e-brake cables to get those to work as well as a adjustable proportioning valve, the 9 bolt should be a direct swap though otherwise. The calipers can be upgraded to LS1 or something later anyways, dont fret about that too much.

If I'm missing anything I'm sure someone else will chime in. I've only done the swap once w/ Tony, but his car originally had a 9 bolt in it, so Iunno if anything else will be needed.

so looks like the guy bailed on me and decided he only wants to sell the whole car. MadMad i put up another post about this but if anyone wants to split a parts car with me let me know. all i want is the rear and i'd be willing to pay 200 for it. that puts the rest of the car for only $400!!! its on craig's list right now so yeah...
