So I replaced my valve covers with the ones I bought from chis and found that according to MorTec my heads are built for a 305! Shocked

14022601...80-86...267/305...1.72"/1.5" or 1.84"/1.5" valves, 53cc chambers

So yeah, I think i need a set of heads for a 350...I'm a total n00b about this kinda stuff so i need to be educated. Any recommendations for what i should get?

I want to find something relatively cheap, and not ULTRA performance. but something better than what i have so i'm no longer choking my engine.

is it that you think you have a 350 engine, or that 350 heads presumably flow better? If money's tight you can always port a set of heads yourself. Dewey got some good numbers (not to mention an extremely flat torque curve) from his head that were port and polished.

You can check mortec all you you want but until you pull the heads off and see what's in there, it could be anything.

Sure that's the casting... but that's all you know.

I had a set of 416 heads
:14014416...80-86...305..........1.84"/1.5" valves, 58cc chambers:

That had 2.02/1.60 valves and were 64cc.

If the motor runs good, leave it be. If you're going to dig into the bottom end and or cam swap at the same time then think about some other heads. You need to know what piston dish you have and what your deck height is before chamber size becomes a factor.

thanks for the good advice. I'm not about to fork out big bucks for new heads and cam soon so I'll probably just run what its got cuz it seems to run fine. It doesn't pull as much as I thought a 350 should. so i thought it could be that my heads are choking it all up. But i don't think there is any rush for a head and cam upgrade, I'll take my time with it all.

by "previous" I meant before you.

I'm not laughing. Tappy tap tap

Actually I'm amazed it runs as well as it does between the blowby, and the mismatched heads.

found a set of aluminum LT1 heads on Craig's list today for 175. would these be compatible? I'm not in a hurry by anymeans and probebly won't buy them, but i just saw aluminum heads for cheap and didn't want to pass up a great deal if they are infact.

LT1 motors are reverse cooled, without a lot of welding those heads wont work, and I'm not sure if the LT1 heads have the same provisions for gen 1 SBC intakes. I would pass.

the LT1 heads dont' have a front or rear water crossover in the head or in the manifold, due to the reverse direction of the coolent flow. Not compatable with Gen I stuff without SERIOUS modification to the head and Intake manifold.
