Took it out of hiding today, and lost a little more hearing (bad collector gasket leak). My Dad and I took it out to Waller/Midland and blew it around a bit. Ran pretty well, clutch engages smooth, gave me no problems. Still getting used to it though. Years of auto driving weakened my left foot.
Still need to fix the VSS though. It didn't stall at low idle like some people had said, the idle speed just kept increasing. Once you start the car it fluctuates, then drops to 750 (with the auto it would drop to 1500, then 750). However the longer you drive the higher it idles. It topped out at around 2K rpm, which was the highest I let it go before killing it, but it took about 20 minutes of running before it would get that high. I checked the TB and it's not sticking or anything, so I assume it's just a lack of VSS. |

Actually in a couple weeks Jake is having a get-together at Pacific Raceways. Gonna try and have new exhaust and guages by then, plus some more practice with a stick.
I have honestly never touched a manual car with this much torque before. |

Torque is fun. Aren't you supposed to put a couple hundred miles of "Nice" driving in to break the Clutch and flywheel contact in? _________________

Not really... cause the guy I bought it from was nice enough to do it for me.
I bought a bunch of swap parts, and the clutch that was included was actually in pretty good shape, so I used it.
BTW, for you swap guys, what did you do with the hatch releae switch? An article on TGO claims that you can splice the yellow wire from the hatch release to the brown wire on the parking brake lever. I tried that and the hatch opened both times. With the parking brake on it worked normally, with the brake off the hatch opened, but the seatbelt buzzer went off and the tach jumped to zero.
Right now I left the wires unplugged under the glovebox |

| I left the hatch release switch where it was. I have to have the clutch in, then depress the switch to pop the hatch. |

| What wire did you use though? I spliced into the yellow wire, but that may have been a mistake. There was also an orange wire, and a ground. |

What do you mean what wire did I use?
The hatch switch is unrelated to any of the automatic stuff when you do the swap. As in, you don't have to touch it.
On the auto shifter the blue/green wires go to the reverse light switch.
The yellow/purple wires go to the clutch neutral safety switch.
That's it. The wire(s) heading back to the ECM aren't used anymore since there isn't a neutral/park signal to the ecm. |

I was under the impression that the hatch would only open in Park. Must have been wrong about that. |

my GTA: the hatch only opens with the E-brake on. the car was originally an auto car, when it was an auto i could open the hatch in drive, as long as the E-brake was on. now that it's a stick it's the same deal, any gear any time, as long as the E-brake is on.
my six i wired up myself, and it will only open if the ignition is on. i like it better that way, more secure. cause you know, people are just dieing to steal my 1986 2.8L firebird. |
