So today i attempted to swap out my wiper motor for one chris gave me a while back only to find out that they are not compatible. I need one from an early third gen. I thought there would be a way to jerry rig it but when the bolt holes didn't even line up i said screw it, i'll call the junk yard.
I show up to the lynnwood pull-a-part and find they have 2 camaros in the whole place. a 91 and 82. 82...great, it even has a wiper motor like i need. I get the first 2 bolts off and only need about 5 more minutes to remove the linkage and the electrical when i hear screams from a ways off.
There is a car ENGULFED in flames!!!! one of the JY cars about 100 yards away has been transformed into an inferno...all the employees start running over there yelling that everyone has to leave the yard because they are now closed. 1 BOLT AND 4 MINUTES AWAY!!!! so now i have to hope they are open tomorrow and go finish the job. ARG so frustrating

I really shouldn't laugh at that person and the car on fire, but that's like Ian's story when he hit a deer. I just can't help but laugh.
do you have variable speed wipers or 2 speed? I can't remember, but I think that motor I gave you is a 2 speed.

well I have no idea of what may be wrong with my wipers. I got the new wiper motor out and it works just fine but doesn't work when wired in. sounds like i have some more work with a multimeter.
But while I was there the camaro happened to not have air conditioning! so i pulled the box and only cost me about 5 bucks. I haven't yet decided about keeping it and ditching the AC system or trying to recharge it (i do drive a black car)

Ditto that. When I bought my car mine was partially deleted, and I took the rest out. Never regretted it once. So much easier to work on.
*edit: BTW, Jake, did those headlight covers I sent you work out okay? Right after I shipped them out the forums kinda blew up and I never heard back on them. |

I ran a hard top car without for 2 years. Regretted it a few times.
I have a white car now yes, but black interior and tint.... T-Top. No regrets ever. Especially feel better about my choice to remove when I work on some red car that still has it. |

I loves me my A/C when I want it. Particularly useful for defog. Cruise control works great too Oh, and I seem to recall someone lamenting the lack of A/C not too long ago... must have just been a HOT day 
Reduced weight is great but nothing more horsepower can't overcome

you could just keep the AC and do a k-member swap if you're that anal about weight but still want a little comfort...
I've been looking at ways to re-route a 4thgen AC line for my car... if you lot think working on a 3rdgen with AC is hard... try an LS1 car but if Mike feels at some point that working around the AC is a pain in the ass, re-routing doesn't look to be too difficult of a task
between the coil packs and the AC I can barely get past mid-forearm for the rear stuff (also does not help that the LS1 is partly under the cowl, making for some mighty interesting ways of doing other work as well)
the cruise control stuff on the other hand, as well as the tcs, I could do without... that might go next
then again, when I get back up north... I may actually give into the AC delete bug... that could be fun (considering there isn't a non-AC box like 3rdgens  ) |

| You can tell who the younger guys are. I'm with Mike. I just recharged my ac too. It's so nice to have. If my ac blew up tomorrow I'd still be repairing it. 35lbs.. whats that.. just add a few more ponies. Gotta have cruise too. Long trips.. or even short ones from the bar to home. .cruise is a necessity. |

isn't the bar like barely a mile from your house? do you use the cruise then?
my last longer trip was to Brownsville, TX... roughly a 6 hour drive, 1 full tank of gas... during the middle of my trip down, my cruise stopped working on me... apparently it's a common problem with 4thgen's, just requires a slightly akward position to get myself under there and tighten it back up, but I haven't yet... so I don't miss it much... but I only go to work and back most days anyway. I probably put the least amount of miles on my car than anybody else in Houston who drives it daily |

Apparently you've never tried to run the gauntlet. Yes, the duck is right close. But its no fun when people from cathlamet can't make it down here to skamokawa because of all the cops between the 2. This is where you end up driving back and forth to cathlamet.. with the cruise set to 58. We have a new woman cop from tacoma now too. Just ask the crewbies that showed up friday what she's like. |

I've only been out there once, sadly
next year I hope to be there from the start to the end though... tickets and all
I always seem to have luck when I've been drinking around here... the main stretch of road is usually loaded with cops about 2am... last few times I've gone out drinking, well... 75+ in a 35-45 (depending) all the way home...
thankfully, my desk is wood, and I'm knocking |
