Well, they did make two different kind of hatch latches. The non-powered one is way lighter, but you have to slam it. I'll see if I can find one to take a pic of. I know my friend Rich has a couple laying around.
Thanks Tony. I figured it was something like that. |

Technically they made more than just two.
The older style like that one pictured, and a smaller power hatch assembly on the later cars 91-92 I know of (because my 91 has one) and I think some 90's got 'em.
I've got a spare early style hanging around here as well. |

does anyone have the TGO link to guys going from the power pull down to the slammer?
I just put two little tack welds on the track to keep the wheels from going down to far so its tough to latch...
I dunno, I just dont like the idea of stuff kind of being "gypsy-rigged"
<-----says the guy with mechanical linkage and hacked his floor for a 5 speed. _________________

thanks for all the great information guys!
here soon i'm going to gut the interior and redo everything (get ready for paint) so i may have to replace it then....assuming it's there.
it sounds like there's a good chance the car had one, but i do believe it's broke. it sounds like a pretty cool little item.
i saw one on ebay, that's why i asked about it.
anybody got a working one laying around?
maybe i'll post that in the "wanted" section. _________________ we all gotta start somewhere.... |

Apparently, by looking at the pictures at Top-Down Solutions, the one I have lying around is for 88-91. The one in my 92 must be different. _________________ 92 Camaro

Hey, what a coincidence! My pull down just stopped working about a month ago. I looked at it, but saw nothing obviously wrong.... it happened when my back window seal gave out and filled my hatch area with 4 inches of water, killing my amp and presumably my hatch pull down relay too....
Can anyone point me to the location of this relay? I really hate having to slam my hatch down like I'm trying to kill it. |

If you look at the picture posted, the relay is hanging down on the bottom of the hatch latch motor thingy. |

Well, now I feel stupid...
I guess I just assumed it would not be in such an intelligent place, and I don't recall seeing one there when I tore my well apart...
Thanks! Next time I'll think about it a little longer before posting. ![Embarassed](images/smiles/icon_redface.gif) |

I can't tell if I had the hatch pull down or just the electric hatch release. There is nothing there now but the hatch has a black lever type thing with 4 metal contact points. The only way I can open the hatch right now is with the key. I do have the hatch release switch in the center console and I can hear it making a clicking sound in the rear of the car. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

I did some researching and found that that 4 point contact thing is indeed to supply power to the rear wiper. I've deleted mine (a nickel works well ) so I have no need for it. but there is a rectangular hole in that plastic interior panel next the the hook on the body so I'm thinking that I used to have a pull down as there is nothing in that area. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S
