so my sticking throttle has gotten alot worse despite two cleaning attempts. where do i acquire a rebuild kit for the thing? NAPA was quick to mention that they sell rebuilt TBs . ....for 350$+ Laughing i pointed out that a holey TB with bigger openings is about that same price. Cool

i also tried baxters and schucks. no luck.

me neither, but i assume people don't go spending 350$ every time a TB needs a little more then a cleaning.

there is a site called tbi parts, or efi-tbi, something. They also sell on ebay IIRC. I'm sure they sell rebuild kits, as well some performance items.

well, to hell with that. i'll take it apart and clean it like no one has ever cleaned a TB body before. i'll just be carfull with all the seals and o-rings and stuff so i can re-use them.

EDIT** you are talking about http://tpiparts.net/catalog and they do not sell re-build kits. they do have 58MM TB for cheaper then NAPAs rebuilt stock ones though Laughing

Did you try cleaning all the carbon around the blades and checking to make sure your pedal isn't holding it back with too much tension?

pedal is good. in regards to carbon... i did what i could without removing the throttle blades, this time i am removing the throttle blades.

anyone know how to remove that shaft they bolt too?

wow.. i can't get the blades off. they are a torx T-9. i have a t-9 but it is on one of those "swiss army knife" style things, and i can't put enough force on it.

Um... you don't.

Mike and I found that out when installing his big Lingenfelter one. We had to pull the throttle cable bracket off the stop one. Have to grind the head off. They don't come apart. If it's sticking you just have to isolate where and get lube to it and work it a bit. Take the throttle cable off and see if you can get it to stick open.

i have never been able to duplicate the problem under the hood with the cable connected or disconnected. i have managed to pop the hood when the problem creep up, walked over to the engine bay and been able to visually verify that the throttle blades are visibly stuck open.

i think it's time to oil the sucker up then. Shrug

The throttle blades stick OPEN? Like WOT?

It is more normal to see them stick CLOSE, when all the carbon around the butterflies can stick to the TB housing.

If it will not pull close, I would verify return spring operation.

they stick open like engine will stick at 1500 RPM or 1300RPM. but sometimes it will get stuck up around 2K-3K. i have never had it just runaway on me before (go WOT).

that spring is freaking tight.

well, i went ahead and removed the IAC housing and cleaned the hell out of that too. that is the worlds cleanest TB now. Smile i'll wait for all the solvent to disipate and i'll oil it up with some 3in1 oil.

I'll take a look at what is left of my stock throttle body tomorrow to see if there is anything that might be useful for you. Pretty sure we scavenged heavily for the 58mm TB.

That was one of the few good deals I have managed with this car. I'm into a Lingenfelter 58mm TB for $150.

Forget where I saw it advertised - might have been TGO. Guy had a shop over in Beaverton. He sold me the main body for $50 but it didn't have the air inlet adapter. I had to pay $100 just for that from LPE. I was willing to do it though.

Was kind of interesting because a few months earlier LPE said that they don't sell them separate. I tried again before I was going to try and fab something and apparently they changed their policy or I got the right person. Shrug
