Bunch of weirdness been going on with my vehicles.

1:... I can't seem to find the problem of this SES light on my Jeep. Small EVAP Vacuum leak. Read on some message boards that one of the lines attached to the fuel tank for vacuum emissions can get plugged with fuel. So I run some compressed air down from the engine side and here a loud POP. WTF? Well jeep still runs fine and the code is still there. Oh well figure it out later.

2: My airfilter falls off the car and I run over it. Tuff little buggers. Bent it back into shape, bolted it back on. And built a little basket/water baffle to block water from the tire better and so if the filter falls off again, it wont jetison the car.

3:Pull the speedo gear off the Jeep to count teeth to verify the new one I need for the bigger tires. Put the gear back in... Speedo doesn't work!

Find out JEEP, unlike GM, actually anticipated owners putting larger tires on it and made the sending unit in a cam style. Turn it 90º on index and depending on the gear you have, it moves the gear in or out to acomodate for the different teeth count/sizes.

4: Go to get gas in the jeep. Try 3 different pumps, they ALL shut off after only a few seconds. Say screw this. Went home with my 2 gallons of gas. Decided I'm pulling the tank to inspect and check all the vacuum lines that run back there. Since they are hard plastic maybe one broke.

Well I found:
A broken connector,

A connector missing it's latch piece. AND not fully attached to what it was supposed to be.

An an exploded what I am told is a... get this.... "Vacuum Leak Detector Pump." Yes that's right folks... a PUMP designed to detect the most minute vacuum leak (the kind that wont effect the engine at all) followed by brightening that annoying ORANGE glow in the shape of an engine block. Oi Vey.

Brandon, you think I can just snap this back together? All the pieces are still there..... new is $60.

Thankfully the Jeep dealer isn't as proud of their parts as GM.

Then I decide to go tackle the Camaro's heater core. Two days ago the front passenger carpet was wet. I'd been smelling wiffs of coolant for a few days. Replaced the Core in Feb '06 last. So I pull the underpanel off... and everything is bone dry..... Pop some of the covers off.... bone dry. Run the motor for 15-20 min... bone dry. Open the hood... coolant full.... but I find this:

My strut housing and the bracket for my clutch reservoir.... the paint has what appears to be heat blistering.... but from what? Car never over heated... it's right next to the brake reservoir and power boost? WTF?

So I go drive got 30-45min..... carpet and underdash are still dry. Maybe it was just condensation? Embarassed

Strut cover.
Break fluid got in it... or is leaking on it.
Maybe some other fluid.
filled you break res. latley? mabye you spilled some?
Is that a fuel line next to it???

Haven't had the brake cover open since dyno at Sequim.

That's one of my fuel lines yeah. I ran them back from the hardlines and across the firewall to keep them away from heat.

I was going to say basically what scott did. Brake fluid that's been sitting there for a looooong time, or fuel.

That's a weird one with the Camaro.

I know brake fluid and gas will both do that over time to that paint
If its gas be carfull, you know what happened to our car because of a fuel line.
Oh, Motor is out, ac delete box looks way better. ....

definitely brake fluid from somewhere. i spilled some of that down the firewall on my old triumph and it pealed the paint right up! huge PITA. looked just like that.

wow, the GTAs brake reservoir is spitting fluid too. i leaned on it while trying to find an exhaust leek (header bolts) and it made a noise, i look over near it and paint is falling off my strut tower just like yours is Paul. so i am off to the stealership to get a new gasket or lid. i'll hit NAPA 1st, but i bet they won't have it.

well, napa had it. i took the 86 and when i got there i popped the hood to grab the lid/gasket as comparison, turns out the six has the same issue. NAPA only had one gasket, so i put it on the GTA and there is no more escaping air noise when i rest my elbow on the lid. NONE. so it turns out this problem has a $4.50 fix. Cool

Well Jeep finally figured out how to order me the right part and I got it saturday. Put everything back together along with the new speedo gear to match the tires.

Everything seems to be in order!

I have next week off for vacation. My one goal.... Brakes.
