ok, so i have been thinking about doing an LT1 swap on and off again for the better part of a year, can't decide between LT1 and carbed 350. One of the reasons is costs. So i was wondering if anyone around here would know a good place/way to get an lt1 or whatever...i looked at www.gundies.com and they have an lt1 for $1650.53 but i have been told thats too expensive, so.... any known places for cheaper ones or ideas where to look? i would also like to find a T56 but if i can't find one with an lt1 then i can get a T56 seperate... _________________ 1989 IROC-Z Camaro

ya i know, already been talking to him a bit since he live like 5-10 miles from me and i drive past him to get to work, he lucked out and got a wrecked LT1 cheap. just figured since this is for local peeps maybe there was somewhere nearby i didn't know about to get such stuff instead of getting something shipped from east coast (where all the LT1s seem to come from) for an obscene shipping fee _________________ 1989 IROC-Z Camaro

Maybe you could check the local junkyard for a wrecked donor car with a good drive train perhaps? _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

If you're looking for an automatic it's like shooting fish in a barrel. I passed on two LT1's with 4L60E's. One was a complete wrecked '97 (which I could kick myself for) and the other was a pullout '95. Both were $1500, and both local.
Keep a close eye on the usual suspects, craigslist, TGO, camaroz28.com, LS1tech, ect. Something good will come up.
If you're looking for a complete LT1 pullout with T56, get ready to pay quite a bit more, and look quite a bit farther. Truth be told LT1 T56's are generally worth more used than the engines they're bolted to. |

| Craigslist. Both sold AFAIK. This was a few months ago when I was looking at a full LT1 swap. I later decided it would be better to run an L98+T56 than an LT1+4L60E. |

Ooops. Ya, I skipped over this post, didn't even see it. Lol.
I looked and looked for a motor for my car. I bought the chassis first, and then motor second. As long as you're patient and keep looking you'll find one. I'll ask around too. Turned out my asking friends made them ask thiers and thats how I found it. Friend of a friend. Literally.
It would go sooo fast if I helped you. I know exactly what you need to get to make it work. The hardest decision is the speedometer. If you have a 92 with electronic speedo, no problem. If you don't, its either Autometer ($200) or you buy a dual output tailshaft (mechanical gear and reluctor ring, $400). This is only if you get the auto. The T56 is still too expensive for my taste.
The 4L60E is computer controlled, you can control the shift points AND shift pressure. So it really is an awesome tranny. Plus if you want one bigger, they have a 4L80E. I'll let you drive it if you want. Its got some spunk still left in it.
If you really wanted to go all out, I have a 4th gen dash...... _________________ E30

Why the L98 over the LT1? Personally I would go with the LT1+4L60E or 700-R4 (would that work?) I have had my fill of manual trannies over the past 4 months! My project car '85 Z28 can have its manual, but I really would like an auto in my daily driver '89 RS. My left foot gets real tired in rush hour traffic on I-5 between Tacoma and Renton. |

| Figured if I was going to spend the money on an automatic that was built enough so I couldn't kill it, I might as well save some gas money and go with the T56. Then later if I get a deal on an LT1 with no trans I can swap it easily. |

Hmm, Yoda perhaps?
IMO I'd go with a manual tranny. You will never get nearly as much enjoyment out of an auto.
But don't let my opinion pressure you into reconsidering your choice. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

7 of my 10 Camaros have been autos. And I have enjoyed them all. And banging gears is fun unless you are sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours. |
