Melted, I think if you double click these pic a couple time you will be taken to my pic page and can view them bigger, in much better horrific detail...
Melted form back to front, to break booster, to dual fans, to harness.
From a loose fuel fitting on the stainless lines.

The rubber in the stainless lines were almost completely melted. If they would have caught fire I believe it would have gotten to the full gas tank.

we caught it just in time. Yes we can fix it and make her better..LOL....

Ya this thing got hot,
It even melted both strut caps.....check it out.
Motor ready to come out., will replace the cam, maybe some more head work, I want more lift maybe aroung .550 so I will have to have them machined a little, If I try and do that now I will have coil bind.

Oh ya, powder coating is almost bullet proof!!!!

Wow scott, it doesn't seem like it but you guys actually got really lucky. Nothing but the wires and plastic seem to be damaged.

I didn't realise there was that much damage, that is going to be a real mess. But, hey you will have a practicly new car when you are done!

That sure is a sore sight. There's no real damage to the actual engine is there? Good thing you caught it in time. maybe an excuse for an A/C delete box then, eh?

man my IROC did that once but it was from the dip stick missing the o-ring and oil got on the headers and all over the harness on the passenger side and one time i was roasting the tires and woosh the car filled wiht smoke and i didnt knwo it was on fire then about a mile later it was still smoking and i popped the hood and damn its on fire but i managed to get the fire extinguisher on it and saved the car but the heater box was done for lol

General concensus is that stock crank and rods can handle 500 Hp at 7000 rpm. That means more power at lower speed. I wouldn't worry about them too much as long as the assembly is well prepared and balanced. This craze about forged rods and crank is over done. Mine is still sick from 2 years ago... doing the same thing. Arced against the dipstick tube with the 12 vote cable to the starter.

I do have ARP rod bolts and polished rods :O)

Balancing is a huge factor. When I put mine together the first time I didn't balance and it was quite the vibration station. It's so smooth now with a bigger cam!

If i did it the same again id do main studs. other than that im happy camper.
