Well I want to try this one more time...
Crane cam article on this,
http://www.cranecams.com/?show=article&id=26
Specifically this,
"we offer a simple, do-it-yourself way to help oil the distributor gear and reduce this accelerated wear in Chevy V-8 and 90? V-6 engines.
On these engines, the lower portion of the distributor housing drops through the oil gallery that supplies oil to the lifters on the passenger side of the engine. Two rings at the bottom of the distributor housing seal the top and bottom of this galley. Oil flows around the distributor, between the two rings.
Solving distributor gear wear is as simple as filing or machining a .030" groove in the bottom ring of the distributor housing. A three cornered file can also be used.
The distributor housing should be grooved in any engine operated for extended periods at low engine RPM. With the distributor installed in the engine - ready to run - the groove should face TOWARDS THE CAMSHAFT. This will provide a reasonable flow of oil to lubricate and cool the distributor gear and cam gear as they operate.
Remember to keep the groove facing the camshaft, and be sure to use the correct Crane high silicon, copper alloy distributor gear for best results."
Humm, maybe this will help???
I think the new bronze gear we put in is already wearing...
Iam thinking about putting in another gear and then grooving the distributor...
Has anyone done this?
How about a pic???
This is starting to become a real pain for our car…..
this pic is identical to our first gear...check it out...

They've got combos that work together and even if it is just a wear part that you replace every so often... I'd rather do that... than to alter the way oil flows throughout the engine.

I pulled dist last night.
The bronze gear was worn, even for running about 20 minutes.
So,
I checked the up and down slop in the distributor shaft, way to much.
About .040 Crap, so I shimmed it per the book to .005.
Stuck a new steel gear on, after I took all the sharp edges off of it with a air motor and sand paper.
Stuck it in, and it did go in better,
Ran the car, re-timed, re-tps, re-min idle. It ran a bit better but popping under part throttle maybe bogging out, until full throttle then goes like a rocket.
I kept advancing the distributor until the bogging went away, but then the top end didn't like it.
Humm,
Well, this is the same problem that I always seem to get. At one point it did run excellent for about a month then same problem, and it ran like crap.
Now we are back to the popping.
I will hook up the computer tonight and see if all the sensors are working ...
Iam getting little bummed..

Well the basic stuff,
350 .060 over, iron heads ported, 58cc 194 valves, stainless,
Lt4 hot cam with matching springs.
24lb injectors
Holley stealth ram
58mm Holley throttle body.
Stainless roller rockers.
Jacobs’s ultra coil
msd digital box
Speed density 7730 ecu.
Adjustable fuel pressure reg
It’s been a pain.
Iam about ready to spend the 1,000 bucks and go with the commander 950, but I am not convinced that there isn’t something mechanical wrong some where. Maybe even a sensor some where.
This setup is really temperamental.
For a while it will run like a rocket, then bam back into the popping problem and bogging down at low end.
I have gotten some help from Paul and that did help allot , but now its back to another problem.
Iam going to be re-burning another chip, form the original data source (the one that Paul modified the timing table on) and put it in again.
(I had a corrupted chip at one point)
It may be time to put new wires on as well.
Its been a pain..
Almost at wits end, I have begun drinking BUD LIGHT beer when working on it lately.
We all know what that means…
ALL right how do I get an image on here,... |

| The poping and bogging, really sounds like the tune. My car popped like a MF'er after I put the cam and intake in, until I corrected the pump-shot, and got the fueling close. I know Paul's did the same. |

Ya Iam sure that’s part of the problem.
So I put that new chip in that Paul modified, and it went away (a month ago), then the popping came back, but that was after the dist. gear fiasco.
Oh ya, I don't even like Bud light beer, but yet I am buying it..
Maybe because its a cheap guzzling beer...
My kids going,,, "hey cool you bought bud light....."
lol...

| Need to start tuning those BLMs and then watching which way the O2 swings when you hit acceleration enrichment and adjust acordingly. |
