Hi everybody. I was posting over on thirdgen and you guys recruited me.
For those of you who have been following, I guess I am now the proud owner of a California Special Iroc. Cool. |

Actually, would it be ok to just post a link to the other thread on thirdgen? I can post the basics here though:
Essentially, the car was one of 502 produced in California as a special promotion. They were made in either red or black, 400 being red (approx) and 100 being black (approx, as far as I know). They were built as true sleepers, without a single identifying factor that it was an IROC other than wheel caps and the B4Z code in the console. The hood louvres were deleted, the rear spoiler was deleted, the IROC on the doors and all striping was deleted, and they all came with the LB9 305/215hp engine as well as the 3.42 ratio rear end.
Mine is all red with t-tops and a black interior, but others have been known to be all black with a hard-top and black interior, or black with a hard-top, gold ground effects and wheels along with a tan interior.
If I have missed anything, please correct me. |

AWESOME RIDE.
I'm betting 5 speed with that rear end ratio. _________________

Edit: Hmm... TGO has the G92 automatics in '85 getting those gears, and the T-5's getting 3.73's. |

TGO has the G92 automatics in '85 getting those gears, and the T-5's getting 3.73's. | the only T-5's that got 3.73's were the L69 cars and 3.42's in the L69 Auto's ... the rest got 3.42's in the T-5's ... unless it was something specific with the california iroc's... not too familiar with those.
course that information has been known to change over the years, so that doesn't say a whole lot |

You couldn't get an LB9 with a 5 speed in '85. And you couldn't get an L69 with an auto trans. This is according to the Camaro White Book.
Hey welcome aboard man and congrats on finding a rare IROC! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

this was also proven to be untrue ...
in 83, you could not get the L69 with an auto, but in 84, while rare, you could get the auto. Ditto with 85 and then it was dropped in the F-Body, but was also paired with an auto in the Monte Carlo SS as well until 88.
having said that, I've been looking for an 83 L69 Z28 for who knows how long ... I want one so bad |

Welcome dude, sounds like a cool car. B4Z I thought was the cop code #? If so i had no idea they made those in 85. To my knowledge seeing a 92 b4z ex cop car turned 383 was just a z28 with rs badging. It was a bad ass car. But different then what you are discribing. Either way welcome, some pics would be nice. _________________ Thirdgenless |

| Also guys, I have another mystery IROC that I would like to find some stuff out about. It's my dad's 88 IROC convertible. When he bought it the "original owner" (It was used in a parade) told him that it came stock with the O.Z. Racing wheels that are on it now. They have a gold simulated-spoke center with a polished aluminum rim surrounding it. Anyone know anything about these? |

I had an '84 Z28 L69 auto, so I know you could get one in '84, but according to the White Book, the supposed Camaro Bible, in '85 you could not get the L69 with an auto. And, supposedly, in '85 you could only get an L69 with the IROC package. Alot of pieces from my '84 found their way onto turbo_jimi's (now my) Z28. I've got the dual snorkel L69 air cleaner with new snorkels along with both scoops on my '85 right now and the H.O. badges. |
