so I thought I knew what I was doing. I guess I was wrong.
here is what I do, true or false?
1. hook DVOM leads up to blue wire and grey wire (it does not matter which way, one way will just show as negative voltage, but same numbers). T/F?
2. reading at idle should be .5V T/F?
3. reading at WOT should be 4.5V T/F?
how do I set the DVOM? here is a photo of how I did it. i also did it using regular jumper wires, so i know i did not screw up my tester plug.
the reason i think i screwed this up is that i got 4.4V at IDLE and it went down to .75V at WOT. what have i done wrong?

blue and grey
pins 416 and 417. i am going to pull the electrical tape off and double chack. hopefully it is wrong, that would be an easy fix. |

| What the heck is that contraption you made. you should have the + side of the DVOM on the 5v wire, and the ground side on your signal, IIRC. |

| I always just check it, use the DVOM to find the power wire, I never bother looking in the book, i just use the DVOM to find otu what is what. |

To me, looking at the wiring diagram, + should be on the center tap of the variable resistor in the TPS (DK BLU), and - should be on the ground (BLK). As you move toward WOT, less of the resistor is used, resulting in more of the reference voltage being seen. At idle, all of the resistor is being used, reducing the measured voltage to almost zero. Don't measure off your reference, you want to see how much of the reference is present at idle and at WOT and the center tap of the resistor does that. _________________ 92 Camaro

1. I don't remember the colors. Pick two until you have somewhere in the neighborhood of .XX volts. Yes if you have them reversed it just shows the inverse so it really doesn't matter.
2. Idle should be .45. Set it to that.
3. WOT should be AROUND 4.00volts. Period. AROUND. If you read 4.49v your TPS is not bad. If you read 4.00 Volts your tps is NOT bad. If you read 2.3V your TPS is bad.
4. You're testing the sweep. Slowely move the TPS up and watch the volt meter move up, it should be linear without a bunch of skips or dead space or anything. The TPS is nothing more than a rheostat/potentiometer.
5. Set the DVOM to the VOLTS section and set it to the lowest whole number... On mine that's 20.

TECH ARTICLE! "How to Adjust IAC and TPS"
Let me add a note for this however... if your car is any kind of modified (IE CAM/HEAD change) and you are tuning the car yourself... DO NOT SET YOUR IAC by the tech article method. |

thanks for the help everybody. i figured it out thanks to all the help. | Twilightoptics wrote: | BTW You posted a page that had a Map Sensor? |
that is the one for the 2.5L IRON DUKE. i mostly just needed somthing to be a light backround. that
page just happened to be open.
thanks all for the help. i got to work a little early so i tested it in the parking lot. it works fine. my
TPS is fine, no flat spots.
WARNING: LONG AND BORING STORY: the reason i was wanting to check this was my car was
experiencing a flat spot in the throttle the other day, and i finally piced together why. the
events unfolded like this:
i was getting an EGR code on the way up to the woods, when I arived at my dest i used the
paperclip and it through a code 32 (EGR code) so i pop the hood and the vaccume line connecting
the electric solanoid to the EGR valve fell off (it was blocked after the solanoid before). now the
vaccume had a vent to atmosphere whenever the EGR was "open". so i grabbed a bit of vaccume
line and plugged the EGR back in so it would work and figured i would just deal with it dying at traffic
lights (EGR sticks, thats why it was unplugged)
well now the EGR is functioning again and everything is fine, but i am still getting a code, and a flat spot.
i get home and ECM spits out a code 22. i test the TPS voltage and finally notice the wire loom for the
TPS plug is resting on the EGRvalv-to-Plennum pipe (think steel hose). this must have heated up the
wires enough to introduce resistance into the curcuit and screw with the TPS voltage. |

| Check and make sure those wires that were resting on the EGR didnt get burnt up any (check for discoloration of the wire). If you still think it's TPS related, you can check the TPS readings at where the wires plug into the ECM (2 person task obviously). This can absolutely rule out TPS. |

Thanks Schultz Have internet again lol... 3rdgen-less though (driving a 1998 Buick Regal GS w/ 4T65E & Supercharged 3.8l.... way faster than my camaro was lol)
Jake, I'm just glad those parts went to good use. I was surprised how quickly they got put on and into service, your car looks great BTW! |
