Hopefully it will cure my wandering steering, if this doesn't do it, it is time for a new steering box.
Anyway, I get to be one of the "beta" testers for this peice, I sure hope that replacing the rag joint, with a billet disk, will cure things.
PS -- Mangus...did you ever figure out your steering issues? _________________

That the little CV looking joint between the box and the firewall?
I noticed my boot was warn.
Also found out I can remove my header on the drivers side if I pop that loose and move it out of the way! Re-routed my brakelines with it disconnected too.
Good luck!
I'm still waiting on brackets...... |

| A number of people use a solid universal joint on 55's when they go to the 605 box. Every one of them report a lot of vibrations and "whine" transferred into the steering column/wheel. I'm very interested in your observations after you put the solid rag joint replacement in. |

Not that I can hear much in my car. But, i'll let you know how it goes. You could also post on FRRAX, Jason from Unbalanced has run them on several of their race cars, so he would be a good person to ask. |

Alright, Got it all put on. No rag joint!
Getting the old steering shaft out of the car, this took more work than I expected. The upper connection did not want to come out.
Can't see it very well, but this is the worst part of the who thing, drilling out the rivets. Just so you all know, I hate rivets.
Of course, it has to look better if it is going back in the car, giving her a quick code of paint.
Painted, assembled, and ready to go!
Close up of the billet disk there, and how it is mounted.
In the car, and all finished up.

So what's the point of doing this?
I mean, isn't that joint supposed to be a flexy type joint for a reason? Flex in the firewall/column vs the steering box? |

I would assume that'd create slop in the steering. Much the same way a worn tie rod would. A little bit of play before actual movement. I've wanted to do something about my rag joint for awhile. I've seen people ditch the rag joint and put an actual solid ujoint in there but not this billet thing.
How much did that run ya? _________________

it really did tighten things up, steering feel is GREAT. still have a bit of a dead spot in the center, guess that must be the steering box. |

awsome.
what brand of headers do you have? and how close is it to them. i have a steering column issue with my headers that would prevent me from installing such a device if it is too close to the headers. |

They are hooker headers. It is miles of clearance. Look at the pic, the brake lines sit between the steering shaft and the headers.

It's the #7 primary that is close to the shaft right Tony?
I still think you should be able to "adjust" the column over to gain clearance, if not trim that nut down. Do you still have problems with it?
My hedmans come out a little farther than the hookers, which is why it's easier to get to the plugs. With the headers off I re-routed my brake lines to go down and under the steering shaft. Before they were pretty much touching the headers.
Maybe I'll get some better braking ability now :O) |

The wheels were cheap! Plus I just picked up another set of staggereds for $50. So I'm going to see if 18's will fit all around and then ditch the 17's as a set.
Plus then I'll be able to fit 14" rotors. _________________

I was able to get the steering column out of the way. I have about 1/4" of clearence between the steering column and the headers.
the 2nd primary from the front on the drivers side. thats number 7 right? (can you believe i still have not memorised that stuff yet? ) |
