Be sure to notice where to point the needles when you put them back on. Mine ended up way off. Like the fuel gauge I ended up having to fill the tank, then take the needle off and point it to full. This got me close but now I have a huge reserve and it comes off of full almost immediately.

Same with speedo. The needle has a little weight in it that keeps it downward. Since it's just set on a spring.

They don't quite "pop" off they take a little bit of tugging, but BE CAREFUL. I was going to do a "white face" gauge thing on my car and used an old dual Needle spedometer cluster to practice removing the needles on....I ended up breaking two of the needles even without pulling that hard.....so I decided that leaving them black was ok. hahah......

I made a white overlay for mine too. The speedo has never been correct ever since. What I did on the rest of the gauges was cut the overlay from the outside to the inside circle. Then you open it up and slide the needle base through the slit. Since you don't remove the needle, its all good.

I guess that would be a little more difficult since all the gauges are on the same plane. Then I guess the best advice would be to take the needles off and put them on with the cluster facing straight up so that any weight from the needle itself is negated. Like Twilightoptics said.
