I don't know how many of you plan on trips to the wreckers any time soon, but I'm seriously interested in finding out if anyone can take a look at some catback's on 4thgen's for me... specifcally, one that looks something like a series of mandrel bent pipes with two larger pipes with what looks like a bunch of hammer marks in them Laughing

looks like

the entire thing should probably run less than $100 in a yard, and if found, I'd gladly pay for the shipping on it, plus finders fee, etc etc etc Wink (and for the unit of course) .... if multiples are found, same deal, I could use two of them Shocked

I've looked around Houston, which is saying a lot considering there are more pick a parts in Houston than all of Oregon and Washington combined, and have had no luck...

I just don't want to buy one of them new. Embarassed

1969 Laughing they're not resonators they're chambered mufflers... its an aftermarket exhaust

Ian is correct its the GMMG, mostly known from the Berger Camaro's, Intimidator SS and the Blackhawk WS6 ...

However the system's are fairly popular, but expensive... there have been some cases of junkyard finds and I am curious to know if there are any up north...

edit ~ they can also be found on 3rdgen's, but that is quite a bit more rare, seems 3rdgen people aren't too into these

1969, 2000, 2001, and 2002 ...

GM used to be the only company in the 60's/early 70's that used chambered exhausts, they sound absolutely amazing, deep and snarly, just like I like em...

they actually sound a bit meaner on an LS1, but its just how the engine is... comparing an LT1 to an LS1 with a GMMG catback (headers or not) is a fair difference... stock for stock though an LT1 is usually always louder

my SS seems whisper quiet, don't like it... had a guy on a bike playing with me one night and we were cruising about 80 and punched it, and after we got into a parking lot (bout 15 minutes down the road), he asked me why my car was so quiet at that speed... I shrugged and told him it was stock Laughing kind of made me sad though

so, my search continues... it's honestly either I try to find one, or I do my own exhaust with some existing parts and a couple of my own chambers I can find, but I still really love the GMMG and am not sure if I'll be satisfied with something other than that.

but who knows
