What a friggen unbelievable day. Started out before I even GOT UP@!! Woke up this morning.. hmm seems like the alarm should have gone off by now.. Look up, crap no clock.. no power. So I get up and look down the street.. street lights are on.. hmmm. Find out I'm the only house out of power. Seems my transformer went out during the night.

Now for the even better part...

Deb got rear ended on the way to the bank today. Damage isnt too bad bent metal near the hinges, some light damage to the right rear quarter at the very rear, and of course the tail panel& lights.

Top it off work didnt go well either.. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

She seems fine tonight. The kid who rear ended her was in a grand cherokeee. He had insurance. We don't carry full coverage but we do have towing and uninsured. So we'd be covered anyway. The lady in front of her though didnt have a license or insurance. The bird hit the front plate on her back bumper. Basically just needs a license plate to fix the front. Car is structurally ok.. a few pieces of bent sheetmetal but not in too important areas. Cops made her tow it to where I work.. I drove it from there. Beleive it or not.. all the light bulbs work! LOL The back panel behind the lights is bent in pretty good, i'm sure it could be straightened though. We'll see what the insurance adjuster and body shop say. I'm going to have this done, no time to do myself. One good thing, I hope to get a fiberglass aerowing out of this.

Sh** dude. Glad to hear your wife is okay.

It was probably better that it got hit by something higher, that way most of the hit was on the hatch and not on the bumper supports.

At least everyone is ok! thats the main thing, A car is repairable but you only have one wife..... unless your from another country then you have several Wink Well hopefully the damage will be not to costly.

P.S. that aerowing would look sweet!

That does sound like a lousy day start to finish. Glad your wife came out okay. She might change her mind tomorrow though. It can take a day or two to feel all the aches and pains. But hopefully she won't.

I drive a Cherokee (the older boxy type). The brakes are lousy compared to most cars and it's hard to stop quickly. If the driver wasn't paying attention or traveling too fast it can be crunch time.

Ouch!

Glad to hear that Deb wasn't hurt - hopefully it stays that way. I ran up to Paul's place tonight and he mentioned the accident. First thing I asked was if Deb was ok. Second thing was 'B will be able to get his new aero wing now' Cool

Sorry about the crappy day bud. It is the weekend though Cheers

I'll keep that in mind Rod. Does anybody know for sure if the aerowing requires a specific hatch or not? There's a local shop that I'll probably take the car too. Guy can do show paint jobs. But I think I may end up being the expert on what parts will fit and where to get them. So going to have to do a little research.

I guess the driver as looking to change lanes and wasnt paying attention at all. Guy knew it was his fault and very apolegetic/willing to help. The lady she bumped in front of her though was all pissed off. But I think that was because she was heading to jail because of the wreck, and got a large ticket. No license, no insurance, multiple DUI's, and on probation, driving around with her 2 kids in her car. I think maybe she deserved jail myself.

Kind of funny, one of the officers that showed up is a guy we both know. Grew up here and works down here still, but is a reserve in cowlitz. Tow truck driver also knew me. Guess even Longview is still small town.

Talking to her more it was one of the boxy older cherokees. You can see the 2 bumper guard marks on the back of the hatch. I guess that hatch really made a loud explosion when it broke. There's glass clear up in my cowl.

Thanks for all the sympathy anyway. Car has alot of sentimental value to both of us. Her dad and I picked it out for her first car. We've had it since 91. We took it to her senior prom. The 327 under the hood is the original engine out of my first car.

i think that is honestly the first time I have ever seen the hatch blown out like that from being rearended... I've seen some pretty mashed up rearends and the hatch glass still in tact, your rearend doesn't look too bad considering...

that was painful to scroll down to though Sad

I'll bet about half of that is the back glass. I got a used one for my car shortly after I bought it for $700. That was 9 years ago. I have heard that new ones go for about $1200. That was a quote "from memory" without a look-up from a friend who works in an auto glass shop. I could be wrong, but I know they're pricey.
