1. It's Overrated.
2. Make sure your fittings are tight.
3. Don't run it dry for even 5 miles.

If you do not follow the above advice... that loose fitting will cost you $65

What did you toast, the pump or the box?

I saw in the summit mag, that there is a manual conversion kit for our cars. Wink

The pump. You can drive on the box just fine it's just not ratioed right. I don't know about long term effects on the box, but you remember when I used to chuck PS belts?

Yeah fried the pump spinning empty. I was even careful not to get the revs up past 2k on the way home.

That sucks. I need to figure out what is going on with my steering, it is getting worse and worse. I may need to put a new box in mine.

All of it doesn't help if your new pump is rotated in the housing and wont fit your bracket.

Is anyone driving an fbod with the pump unconnected??? Whenever I push the car around without the engine its a pain to turn the wheel. I couldn't imagine driving it without it! Being that I'm in the weight saving mood, it would be nice to shed it..... Are there any other boxes that are smaller that would work just as well? Ive heard of using the S10 manual box, but I won't sacrifice the 2.5 turn L-L.

There are a few sites on ebay that sell them....

Someone told me once you just have do punch one extra hole and you can use a 2nd gen manual box.

I have frequently considered doing this mod....I think you have to change the pittman too...

If you run a manual box, you're going to get the larger ratio which means more than 2.5 turns Lock to Lock.

Just run the PS unit. It's not that big of a deal. Personally I like being able to powerslide using my left pinky, shifting with the right hand, and holding a soda with the left.

Hehe, I know. I've oftened wondered about turning mine down a tad, just so I can get some more wheel feel back. Pinto racks would be nice, but they are against a lot of rules if you race.

I was @ the track this year and had a belt failure right at launch.... Made for some hairy times when the car jumps sideways and you dont have power steering but your still thinking you do lol! Oh well got er steered out and even managed to stay on it. I have thought about the manual steering as well but then my short cruise to work would be much more hassle Very Happy

you could always pull the belt off at the track.

and have similar results that paul had.

I have a PS unit on my Berlinetta, and until it has some major failure I have no intention of changing it to a manual.
