I don't know that I find it all that insightful. I bet if you called ANY tire manufacture, they would tell you that. It is pretty common knowledge that manuals and auto's have diffrent needs on launch. Unless your last name is Force or Schumaker, no one is going to be able to launch as well with a stick, as with an auto. The just load the tires initialy much harder, you do not have the torque converter absorbing the impact.
I guess I do not call that article an eye opener, or a reason to NOT buy radial tires with a manual car. It is just pointing out that bias ply slicks stick more than DR's, that is not news. |

I thought that You, Me, Paul, Rodney, and Brandon, had this discussion at cows, about launcing a manual vs. auto's. I know rodney talked abotu using a line-lock to preload the driveline prior to launching, in hops of eleminating some of the shock.
Anywho... I'm rambling now.
PS -- pumpkin beer should be drinkable this weekend, we should go fora ride, then have some beers. |

Oh I understand the issues of launching stick vs. auto - some of those lessons have been learned by fellow members the hard way. It was of particular interest to me that the manufacturer themselves were pointing consumers with manual transmission to the bias ply over the radials. It just seemed strange to me. To further complicate things, I have read lots and lots (technical measurement, bear with me) of posts across different car forums about how great the Drag Radials are - some even boasting better than bias ply. There are soooo many variables that you can't make a blanket statement but it all adds up for me to make the MT article interesting. Was just curious what others thought.
mmmm Pumpkin. Rumor has it that you are hosting an Oktoberfest party at casa de Lama

Umm, Oktoberfest was 2 weeks ago....
Next year I sure can. I'll have to have bart work on the brewing, I'll be in Africa at the time when most of the brewing for that time of year needs to be done, but I can do some before I leave, and right when I get back.
I'll probably brew a bunch for Cows, and for Dyno.
Off topic though.... |

ummm Oktoberfest is any time we want it. I went off topic in my own thread (nice switch eh?) so it is authorized.
Now back to our previously scheduled program... |

So basicly, you just want to cook up some sausage, and drink beer?
I'll have to find a good polka CD, and tell Bart to get out his lederhosen.
ohh, thats not right.... |

Well, I am actualy trying to save the pumpkin for the holiday's. I have lama-splitter still, and a Bartimus original beer (was supposed to be an Irish Red, but, there is nothing Irish about it, nor did it end up red, lol) that will be ready in 2-3 weeks.
If the p-town people (or anyone else I guess) want to do a "October"-Fest get together, I can try to figure out a time to do that. The weather this time of year can get rather unpredicable. And I don't have a good spot to grill outside in the rain. |

MT told me 2 years ago in seattle that Radial slicks are the wave of the future reguardless of trans.
If one could work the clutch like a torque converter that would be one thing LOL
Considering what i saw the other night and what I've experianced (broken parts).... Radials are just peachy in terms of getting them to stick. |
