So I finally decided to delete the A/C and change the CAI on my 383 from the factory dual filters. Here's how it looks now. I'm going to get it welded and then paint it blue to match the rest of the car. Butt dyno says it definately picked up a few more ponies. Just getting rid of the A/C junk and the smog pump seemed to help the motor spin up faster but when I added the CAI I actually saw a difference on my datalog. BLM's above 3,000 RPM that used to be 126-130 are now reading 134-140. I figured it would have been leaner but it wasn't the case. Anyway, here it is as of now. Just need to find some time off during the week to go get it welded. No more air restriction here!

Looks nice! I'd get it polished rather than painting it, but it'll look good either way.

Yeah, I thought about polishing it too but, with the polished valve covers, HSR plenum and the TT's, I'm about tired of polishing! I think painted blue is the way I'm going.

What a difference it made losing the A/C! I can actually see my spark plugs now!

I think I'm going to have to switch to 30# injectors too, I believe the 24's are maxed out at 4500 RPM. MTF

Yeap. Great place. Mine's been there since 2003.

And that's been a long time. I haven't had TPI or a STB since then either lol. Hooray for HSR !

My coil is there, does this count for anything?

So would you recommend the CAI over a stock dual snorkle setup?

Hmmm...tough question now that it's done. I say yes, if your engine needs it. That is, if the stock setup is an airflow restriction then this type of CAI will improve the engines performance. The stock filter can appparently flow more than expected, my BLM's barely slid to the lean side indicating the engine was able to use the extra air. I'd say on a slightly modded 350 (or smaller) you wouldn't see a difference. On a big headed 350 and larger, slight improvements will be realized from this type of CAI. For me, thats what I was looking for, a slight improvement and eliminate the restriction (if there was one). Each setup is different though, my restriction now is the unported 190 AFR's and my 52 MM throttle body. Cool

52mm! EEEK! Stock 2.8's are a 50ish! I hope your's is a dual 52. I'm going to put the dual 45mm on my TBI s10 and see how it reacts.

Does your intake have provisions to tweak around with the motor? I know that under acceleration the motor will pull to one side so I'm just thinking that the new intake looks solid enough not to bend with it. Just asking. And do you think that this draws cooler air than stock?

Port EFI are twin blade... so its 52mm x2.

FYI The Ramjet 502 (502HP) runs a twin 48mm TB.

Laughing Hopefully the 6" rubber MAF boot performs as advertised and flexes with any engine movement during acceleration (there's really not much though) Wink .

Colder air...nah. It gets the same outside air temp as before, just unrestricted flow now that it is going through 3.5" mandrel bent tubing.

Make sure your boot is nice and lubed. Mine cracked and I have to find another.

Cracked on the inside of one of the ribs from the HSR sticking up higher.

What battery relocate kit did you use? I need to do such things.

I bought the Moroso battery box along with a Summit Racing relocation kit. It worked out fine.

Let me know when and where you find a place to purchase a MAF boot. I borrowed this one from my wifes 88 and haven't been able to find one to replace hers yet. Don't need one right now but, this winter I plan to rebuild her L-98 and I'll need another one in the spring. Or maybe I'll just convert hers to Speed Density since I already know how to tune that, hmmm...

CAI helped my LB8 a little plus it looks cool! This plumbing will also stay in place once my turbo is installed.

No, unfortunately, its plastic! Laughing Except that long tube on the far right, that one is aluminium. Specter stuff to be exact. I don't care what anyone says, I love their sh*t! Very Happy

The turbo is probably gonna be a to4e, inner cooled and all custom so that I can be cheap (relatively speaking) and piece it together slowly. Very Happy I'm just getting into PROM burning and perhaps I will be able to tune the computer for boost, but I may take the easy way out and get an FMU. Wink

i don't know about performance, but i noticed a ~20* drop in coolant temperture once i installed my CAI on my LB8. (stock guage, so 20* is an estimate). it also makes that cool "whistle" at ~2K Very Happy .

while i did nnot notice a performance gain, i can't imagine that there was not one. if you have ever seen the stock intake setup on one of these you would know what i am talking about. it pulls air from the right place i suppose (same as my L98) but it gos from the box into the maf, then 2.5" round, a hard 90* into 1.5" X 3" square, then a hard 90* to 4" oval. here is a photo. NOTE: you may have to log into TGO to view this, i don't.
