Ok,
I got the MSD box in, I was having some problems due to some, over
Re-searching I did on this thing, I found two different MSD manuals on how to hook this thing up. So I called MSD and they squared me away.
Also, I was shipped the flat blade connector type Jacobs coil, so Summit sent me another, with the round connectors, it looks like there is also a voltage difference between the two types, one is 50,000 and the round connector is 65,000 volts. so I hooked up the stock coil to the digital msd unit for now.
Braded stainless steel lines and connectors should be here today for the fuel lines.

My question is,
VATS,
I got spark at the coil wire, then check #1 spark plug, it also has spark.
I thought VATS disables the spark some how, or is it just fuel pressure???
(Fuel pump is unplugged right now anyway) 91 speed density stuff.

or does the MSD bypass something???
I don't think this thing has anything but a stock prom in it.

thanks
scott

I believe VATS disables the starter enable relay or something to that effect.

Well I used the starter to turn the engine over the check for spark.
Everything seems to work, kind weird. Should have vats with stock chip.
Maybe it takes a few seconds after it see's fire in the plugs??

Are you expecting the vats not to work or something?

If you have the key in and it's all vats, it should crank and fire and all that jive.

Ya, I was thinking that I need to explain further. (My fault, was expecting everyone to be able to read my mind) lol.

88 iroc tbi car, swap in a speed density (91) harness tpi.
Just with the above I don't think Vats should allow this to work even with the 1988 key correct?? I thought there was some kind of chip in the key for vats to allow you to start the car ???

The other thing is we set the car up on a remote ignition, using a push button to start her. So except for the locking steering you really don't need the key at all, Just the 4 channel remote #1 ignition, #2 stereo,
#3 underglow (what can I say its my kids car), #4 yet to be determined.

Hope this helps.

VATS should have been part of the ignition system wiring. You wouldn't have swapped that in. The ECM may have a VATS function on it, but the main stop from starting is with the key and that circuitry. You'll be fine.

Don't worry about it. If you are worried still, disable VATS in the FLAG section for that chip when you burn one.

in addition to disabling the starter relay, on TPI cars the ECM willnot supply fuel to the engine unless VATS says it's ok, preventing you from rollstarting a VATS car without the proper key.
