well, today i replaced my Air dam with a new unit from GM. this one is about an inch longer and actualy points forward, to "scoop" air. the one i had before faced backward from years of curbs and speedbumps.

i also took the oportunity to replace the housing for my right hand foglight. the wires in the housing were all melted from some electrical short in the past. well, when i went to replace the housing i could not get the plug undone, it was melted together. so i hacked it off and went to the junkyard and got a new one. hooked it all up and it works fine. yay, no more winkeyness. i also hacked some leather off of a 4th gen leather seat that was sitting in the rain to patch up the slight tear in the side bolster of my new leather seats. oh did i forget to mention...

yesterday i drove to ranier OR and picked up a set of 1996 Camaro leather seats. the driver side has power, passanger side is manual. and the rear is a solid folding bench (split bench not available on 4th gens). they make my cars interior look 100% better. there is a small hole in the drivers side seats side bolster form people getting in and out, but with this leather i should be able to repair it myself.

i also found out why i could not hear the movie in my car at the drive-in. my radio antenna was not plugged into the back of the deck. i pulled the deck and cleaned the inside of it out, (alcohol swabbed the lazer eye, blew out the dust etc...) plays CDs flawwlessly now.

the cavalier seats are now in the v6 car and look better in there then they did in the GTA. and look better then the tan by far. they realy tie the grey/black door pannals in with the rest of the car. i need to get some 4th gen rears that match the color pattern to realy complete that look. right now i am driving around with no backseat.

i also went in and ordered a new clutch kit from napa for the v6 car. guy cut me a deal on it. regular price 112, fleet discount 100, my price 94.32. yay 6$. i will probably put it in this weekend. which leads me to a tech question:

how do you pull a pilot bushing out of the end of the crank?

How much was the new air dam?

There are a couple of ways to get the pilot bushing out. Probably the easiest way is to go to schucks or zone and rent one of thier pilot bearing pullers. The down and dirty way is to find a small length of round rod that fits in the pilot bushing hole snugly. Then fill the hole behind the bushing with grease all the way to the end of the bushing. Then put the rod in the hole and smack it with a hammer. Hydraulic force will drive the bushing out for you. You may have to pull the rod out and put more grease in, but that's easy.

I predict that removing the pilot pushing will go something like this:
Pokey pokey Smashy Smashy Mad Smashy Smashy Smashy Smashy Evil or Very Mad Smashy Smashy Smashy Smashy #$%^&* #$%^&* Idea Bang bang

and after he destroys his flywheel: WHOA!! Confused No no no... WHOA!! Bye bye Shrug

Use a pilot bearing puller. I forget what i used, it was from autozone. Was like $170 rental (but got money back). The pilot bearing puller was too big. This thing had fingers, with tips that stuck out at the end. When you thread the bolt in the back, the fingers expand, and the tips lock in behind the bearing.

NEVER had the grease trick work. Tried it 4 times on 4 different bearings.

The tool method... out in 3min.

Damn. They really value their shiz, don't they?

At Schmuck's it's like 45 or something + 6 a day. I always forget to charge people that $6 though. Laughing

I have a puller (just like the one your dad has that we used to get the axles out of the 9 bolt) that I just "customized" a hook attachement to go inside the bushing/bearing. I tried the grease bearing puller multiple times and it didnt work for crap for me. The puller got it out in 2 whacks and 5 seconds lol.
