The 3.27 to 1.98 is a LEAP for 1st to 2nd. It's too wide a spread.
Get steaper gears in the back, and get the 2.66 first gear.
TH350 has that same 2.66 something first gear and leaps to like a 1.8 2nd or something. So Having such a wide spread first to second is being like an auto.
Mike hates his first gear. It's in the 3's and is virtually un-usable. |

Don't know that I hate it (at least my ego won't let me concede the point yet ) but it is steep. First gear on mine is a 3.27. Interestingly, I was looking at tranny ratios just last week and realized that 1st-->2nd on the 700r4 is a bigger jump than the TKO!
Assuming that the new rear end has 3.73's that puts my final drive ratio in 1st gear at 12.2:1 The guys on Team Chevelle say that this is about where you want to be to launch a heavy car even though you have to shift so soon. Of course that is all predicated on the assumption that you can actually get traction.
