|
|
Working on a few things, and found the fuel pressure gauge I had ordered from Summit last month in my glovebox, so I decided to install it. Looked under the dash and the first fuse I saw on the block was labled "FP/Fan" (20A). Pulled it, and started the car. Idle was a little off, and the fan was obviously off, but it ran.
Checked the block again, and found another fuse marked "FP INJ2" (10A). Replaced the first fuse, and pulled the second. Car idled like crap (probably on half a bank of injectors, right?) but still would not die.
Should I pull both fuses, is there another fuse somewhere other than the main block, or should I just throw a rag over the valve and release it at the line? |

What about just letting it sit for an hour or so until the pressure bleeds off? _________________

on a TPI there should be TWO fuel injector fuses "INJ 1" and "INJ 2" in the cabin fuse pannal. but those will not turn off the pump. crawl under the car and unplug the wires going to the pump. this should not be that hard with a jack. if you don't want to do that pull up the rear driver seat and disconnect the black ground wire. both of these will stop the pump from running. now start the car and burn all the fuel out of the lines. or just let it fly out of the schrader valve. unless the engine is realy hot this is not that bad. i would soak it up with a rag.
good luck with your install. |

Well, chalk up another mistake in the Haynes manual. After studying the wiring diagrams, and searching TGO, I found the fuse on the right fender. That killed it after about three seconds.
After a trip to WAFSCO for an elbow and adaptor, I was set. Pressure is dead solid at 46 psi at prime, and 42 at idle. Revving it jumps it up to about 48, so I'm good there.
Next project is the tranny mount. On launch it's starting to sound like someone slammed a 2lb. sledge into the bottom of my car. Probably going to get one of these:

I'm also thinking about a driveshaft safety loop while I'm installing stuff under there. Is there anything specific I need, or should I just get the Summit bolt-in kind and go? |

| You could always just pull the relay on the firewall, that would ensure that the fuel pump does not run. |

That poly ES mount should be at the lakewood warehouse store. Might want to give Art (he runs the performance side) a call down there and see if he'll match the summit price. Then you don't have that $8 "handling" charge.
And I've got that DS loop sitting on my floor, just haven't gotten a chance to put it in. I can bring it to work if you want to take a look at it. |

| As long as it's solid, and not going to twist up on me, I don't need to see it. Does it bolt directly into the unibody, or do I have to drill up through the floorpan? |

Yup. They had it. Matched Summit's price to. Shifts HARD now.
BTW, while I'm shooting down problems and blowing cash, anyone here know how to weld? Subframe connectors are next on my list, but I don't necisarily trust the local muffler shops to do it right and not charge me and arm and a leg for it. |
