I want to put new brake components on my z28, but i want to keep it cheap. I want to put on new front rotors, rear drums, pads, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? _________________ 85 Z28, 383 Stroker, TH350 tranny, Richmond 4.10 gears, dual exhaust

there are questions that need answering. are you looking to just replace the rotors and pads and be done with it? if so replace it all with autopart store brand stock replacements. prety much what you were thinking yeah?
if you are looking for slightly better then stock performance without doing a "swap" to bigger better brakes, you can augment your factory calipers with ceramic pads. perhaps even crossdrilled/vented rotors if you are going to be autoXing anytime soon. i don't personaly see how a few holes could make that much difference on the street, and extreme race setups don't use them ether (due to warpage i think), so i am not a fan. shoes are prety much shoes as far as i know. i would also replace your rear "hardware" while you are in there. just a good idea
anyway, i don't know if i just re-afirmed what you were thinking or not, but there it is. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

All i'm going to be doing is drag racing the car and driving it around town. When i'm racing, it's hard to stop the car, so i decided it's time to do something with the brakes. I don't want to do anything major, just something that will stop the car better. _________________ 85 Z28, 383 Stroker, TH350 tranny, Richmond 4.10 gears, dual exhaust

| Have you checked your brake system? Maybe something is adjusted wrong or broken, and you don't need to do a full replacement. |

Either way it'd be a good idea if your stuff is "aged" or worn to replace it with decent quality replacements. Vatozone is now selling brembo blanks (I wish my store got those). Then some decent pads, a good semi-metallic compound or ceramic set. May want inspect your calipers to make sure they don't look torn up, scarred, etc. New hardware is good. |
