This woman is one of my other half's Aunts. They're still looking... Search and rescue and the like... but there's no doubt it's gone from "rescue" to "recovery." We were out there today.

Death.... sucks.

Woman disappears after going broke

Sheriff's deputies and family members are worried about a 52-year-old woman who, after running out of money, moved out of her apartment in west Vancouver and hasn't been seen or heard from since May 1.

Robin K. Richards apparently parked her gray 1986 Toyota pickup at Moulton Falls Park in north Clark County on May 1, said her sister, Janet Lee, who lives in the Salmon Creek area.

"That's the last we can follow her trail," said Lee, 56.

On Wednesday, several Clark County Sheriff's Office employees and volunteers with Southwest Washington Organization of Rescue Divers searched for Richards unsuccessfully around the park and in the East Fork of the Lewis River, said Sgt. Craig Hogman. More searches are planned later.

Lee said her sister moved out of her apartment in the 2600 block of Kauffman Avenue on April 30.

"She's been out of work and wasn't able to get any help," Lee said. "She didn't have money for rent for May."

Family members reported Richards missing Tuesday after learning that her pickup had been towed from the park on May 5.

Richards gave her belongings to friends, then disappeared, but there's no evidence of foul play, Hogman said.

Lee said family members fear that Richards walked into the woods around the park, planning to commit suicide.

"We do not believe she's alive, none of us," Lee said.

But no suicide note has been found.

Lee said Richards is a college graduate who was interested in environmental causes and was a volunteer advocate for American Indians. She had worked for several law firms in the area, in roles such as legal assistant or secretary, but had no steady job. Richards is single and has no children.

"She's a real good walker," Lee said. "She could have walked a long way from her truck. She could have gone 10 miles."

Richards has gray hair to her shoulders and brown eyes, and wears glasses. She's 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds.

Anyone who saw her on hiking trails around the park, or has other information, is asked to call sheriff's Detective John O'Mara at 360-397-2028; or 911 in an emergency.

John Branton covers crime and law enforcement. Reach him at 360-759-8012 or john.branton@columbian.com.
