Well, I'm new to this forum, but I've been around for a bit. 27, male, skate/snow/wake, and a local micro brew nut. I've mainly posted on VFB, TGO, PNW3, and fbody. Due to recent changes to TGO, and never getting questions answered on VFB, I'm trying this forum out. You guys seem to be a great bunch so far, so I'll be posting here from now on. I know Doug and amy from PNW3 and Mike and Dan up in Van city, so I'm sure someone has seen me somewhere before.
My story goes like this. I had a MINT 89 RS 2.8 Auto, but I got tboned by a Honda speeding down the turn lane. He didn't have insurance (of course) and I didn't have full coverage. Sucks to be me. SO I bought an 86 berli, stripped it to the chassis, and swapped ALL of the parts from my 89 to it. Since the new 86 wasn't a virgin anymore, I just started modding it. The 2.8 was ample for my driving style, so I started with suspension. Last year, the 2.8 spun a bearing at 170k miles, so it got a rebuild. I grabbed a 3.1 crank, bored it .060" over, had it balanced, rebuilt the heads with LS springs, .430" cam, ported polished the snot out of it, and put it back together. Tossed a 10x17" tranny cooler on the tranny as it had a mild shift kit prior, got some 18x8's for it, and away I go! Its been a great car ever since, and way faster. I'm having Mike up in Van city tune the chip for me as we speak (trip by trip) after my MAF->SD swap and things are going better.
This is my first year autocrossing this car, and needless to say, I'm impressing people by how well a 74" wide car does through the cones! Once I get it tuned right (and with some decent weather), it'll do much better. First event I pulled 3rd in novice, and the last event I pulled 5th (13th overall).
I also picked up another 89 RS and am putting a 94 LT1 in it. I bought a wrecked 94 (put in ditch) and an 89 RS with no motor. I've been working on it since Feb (when the weather cleared up) and I'm almost done!
I grew up in Poulsbo, went to school at OC, came up to Bellingham to attend WWU, and never left. I'm always driving down to the silverdale area to visit family, so I'm always around somewhere. I also go up to Canada for the friends up there, so I guess I get around.
Give me a shot out if your around the neighborhood, I'm pretty knowledgeable with V6's and own my own house here in Ferndale. I'm also not afraid to pull my own motors by myself or irreversibly modify my car! I'll be posting here frequently, so I'll see you around! Thanks!

Welcome man. I myself jumped over from TGO. That place seems to consist mainly of idiots and assholes.
Did you do a lot of work to the suspension of that 86, or are you running the stock Berli/RS stuff? |

Hey Travis - thanks for introducing yourself. Hopefully we can meet up later in Seattle or up in B.C.
The LT1 project sounds like fun... keep us posted.

welcome travis.
you have done ALOT to that v6 . my v6 is mostly stock except the front suspension/steering, which has had a moderate rebuild. i too jumped over from TGO, but do still frequent their board.
you should visit our "event callander" board and read up on "dan & mikes crazy canadioan mountain rally". a built up v6 like yours will realy shine in an event like this. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

LOL!
The little 6 does pretty well, but the cars main feat's are in its suspension. The front is stock, except for the 34mm sway, full eurthane, cut Iroc springs, swaybar brace, and boxed a-arms. The rear is stock also, except for the 11.5" disk rear, 4th gen e-brake, cut springs, boxed LCA's, boxed panhard, LCA relocator brackes, 22mm sways, eurathane everything, and soon to be 4.11's.
Still all "stock" except for the real mods. I'm really impressed with the way it handles. Hopefully some day I can get the sfc in, weld in the subframes to the car, and then start shaving weight! I've also got a set of TA honeycombs, but I need to get a spacer for the "rear offset" rims. Does anyone have a set of 1" spacers? Either that or trade/sell me some front honeycombs.... _________________ E30

| schwabs up here won't sell spacers to me. I guess its a liability cause they "fall off". I've tried with no success. |

1" is a funky size. I would NOT run space that large, if you get a bolt on adaptor (from like Skulte.com) you would be ok. But an adaptor that small, may have interferiance issues with your existing wheel studs.
I would just look for a pair of front wheels. |

In 1988 or whenever they came out with disk rear camaro's, GM decided to increase the axle width for whatever reason. To compensate for this wider axle, the wheels had to be made for a 20mm offset (an inch). So for late year IROCs with disk rear axles, you have a set of rims for the front with 0mm offset, and rear rims with 20mm offsets. I have a set of these rims that I'm trying to put on a drum rear (narrow) that has the disk conversion done to it. So I either need an extra pair of front TA wheels, or a 1" spacer.
The bolt on type is what I'm after for sure! Wheel studs that long would be scary! ! ! ! |

| if you are willing to spend the money, contact Adris at Skulte, he is top notch, and builds a top notch product. I run his spacers on my car, 2" front, 2.25" rear. |

For some reason i can't figure out how to post pictures, so this will work I guess!
I don't know much about disk rear camaro's, but all I know is that they were wider than the drum axles by 2" which is why the rims are all different. |
