Remember how we couldn't find the antenna in my camaro tony? It looked like it never had one put in the rear quarter or in either of the fenders? I found it about 3 weeks ago when I was tracing my heater's wiring harness.
It must have been on the passenger front fender....and that got changed/replaced at some point....there's a big black wire that went to the antenna that I traced to the firewall seal....and from the firewall seal inside the car to almost where the stereo deck would plug in on the center console.
I pulled it and capped all the other stereo wires a while ago...and taped in a bundle all the stereo wiring I could find, so nothing looks exposed.
Anyone know if 3rd gen camaros came with radio delete plates? How many cars were manufactured w/o a stereo? I always though at least AM/FM radio was standard equipment in these things. _________________

| Ripped mine out a long time ago in favor of crimp connectors. If it was still back there, my 1.5 DIN deck wouldn't fit because it's so fat and long the connectors would get in the way. |

| I have mine, I used a a wiring kit with my new deck, so it still left the factory harness in place. Then when I added the speakers, we ran the wiring for the new speakers, seperatly, so the factory wires are still in there. |

chris, YES you could get a factory radio delete plate in a camaro. they look odd however because they have a horisontal groove in them. it is just a flat plate. before i saw one i always figured there would atleast be a cubby to store things in... you could replicate one with little effort. just cut a chunk out of a junyard dash pad. i even have some factory looking plastick in a 3'X5' sheet in my dads garage.
john, thats what i want to do. everytime i re-mount a radio my wires get shorter and shorter..... i am trying to hunt down a factory harness to put in. i am about to install a new deck. it is 1.5 din so i am going to mount it flush. unfortunatly this means removing the factory HVAC venting from my radio pod. i am going to see about mounting some sheet matal back there so the pod retains it's rgididy (sp?). |

I didn't have any vent stuff to move. Maybe it's a bird thing?
I just crimp connectors male and female so I my wires never get shorter. |

That's how mine will be done if and when the radio head unit is replaced. Now the harness for the current head unit is crimped with butt connectors to the existing wires. |

Mine is similar to Dewey's - factory harness with adapter for deck.
I don't know how the Camaro's are but in the birds there are two vents for the heater in the 'pod'. Makes things kinda tight. I got a big 'ol nest of wires shoved in behind my stereo.

You and me both, and under the dash. Although there is some room between the radio and the transmission tunnel (floor), I used to have a sattelite receiver there, it's under my seat now. |

| yea, it's a bird thing. our cars list as too shallow for most aftermarket decks without an extension because of it. any shop installed deck on a bird will stick out by 1". looks like ass. i had the one in my 86 flush mounted. i plan to do somthing similar, but a little more proffessional on my GTA with the new deck. it's a 1.5 din. |

1.5 DIN Decks don't protrude backward from the face as far as the basic thin deck. |

| I've got the 1" extension and still had to carve away at the heater vents to get my deck to fit. Even so it has shaken on the deck's plug in and now its acting up. |

Mine's got the original harness with an adapter to my deck. I never knew poeple chopped up the harness until a little bit ago.
With all that crap back there I have to have that 1" extension as well. I hate that look. _________________
