...considering I've been lurking around here long enough.

Anyway, my name is Aaron, I'm 19. I live a bit south of most of you, Tacoma,WA, so-called "City of Destiny", and the car-theft capitol of the Pacific Northwest. Rolling Eyes

For the past year and a half I have been driving a 1991 Ford T-Bird, which is not a bad commuter car, but was slowly killing me. I've wanted a Camaro ever since I was about 11, and so last week I bought a 1987 IROC.

It's a great runner, with a few bolt-ons to boot. It needs a couple minor things, which I've been working on any spare time I can find. Right now the only mod it really needs are a good set of SFC's, but right now it's solid as-is.

If anyone knows a shop around the South Sound that will put my car up on a lift for cheap, just so I can make a quick inspection of the exhaust, I'd appreciate it. I also need to find a shop to weld up my subframe, and possibly a new or partially-new exhaust.

Welcome Aaron. Nice looking car.

If you just want to get the car up in the air to determine the current state of your exhaust, an alternative would be to take it to a shop like Meineke. They can do a quick once over for free and you have absolutely no obligation to do further business with them.

Try just telling a shop what you want to do? Drive in there when they're slow and ask to borrow one of the bays for a bit because you just bought the car and want to check out the condition of under carraige.

Ahhh gotcha. I guess I have a few local shops that I trust so I assume everyone else does too. This is where that saying about assuming comes into play.

How are you liking the car so far? You waited 8 years, just curious if it is all you dreamed it would be Wink

The car is solid, so now I'm in the process of finding and fixing a billion little things.

-Had to replace the drivers side door lock.
-Going to replace the drivers side power lock solenoid today.
-Tie up a bunch of spare wiring under the dash and hood that was left over from an old stereo and alarm system.
-Still need to replace the A/C box which is full of holes.
-Some exhaust component (probably the cat) bangs on the floorpan under heavy acceleration, so I need to tie that up a bit.
-Needs touch up paint, and probably needs a full paintjob. It's a Norwood car, so the paint is in suprisingly good condition for 20 years, but it's no show car.
-Seat belt retractor on the drivers side just broke the other day, I removed part of the headliner, but I haven't had time to fix the mechanism.
-Speaking of which, the headliner is kinda crapped out in back, so I'm gonna look for a way to glue it back up once I fix the seat belt.

All in all I think I faired alright though. All the problems are easily fixable, and don't impair driving. It's a far cry from the other F-bodies I test drove. I actually took a test drive in an '89 L98 that wouldn't even shift worth a crap. Rolling Eyes

I doubt it's the tranny. It's not a loud banging, more of a tapping, and it happens anytime I put my foot into the throttle more than a touch. I could be rolling at 80, punch it a little, and I would hear it exactly the same as if I floored it off a light.

Since the tapping is definitetly coming from about where the passenger's feet would be, I'm thinking a cat hanger is loose.
