Reading the Dr. Gas forum (Nascar exaust guru's). Talking abotu the location of the X pipe the exaust system.

Quote:
If the head pipe lengths are different by more than 3" the effect is compromised. You can hear it by ear! The pressure in opposite banks is always the reverse of the other side. What is key is that the pulses arrive at the junction at exactly the right time to smooth out the peaks. We add extra length to the short side, when possible. If you can't do this, and the lengths are significantly unequal, we frequently run a y-pipe instead and jump up the tube dia. 1/2 to 1" off from the back of the y-pipe. That does help the power, but doesn't give that amazing 180 degree header like sound.

Just thought I would share, I found that interesting, that they would go to a single exaust, if they can't keep the tubes the same lenght.

I had heard that about X pipes. Is the same true for an H pipe setup?

Heh, Brandon and I came up with that when I was designing my exhaust.

I don't think it will affect it to that extent with an H pipe... and H pipe isn't designed to help pull the pulses, it's designed to equalize the different sides.
